my thoughts, if someone has worked hard for there money then they may seem mean. I have found these people very often to be more careful with money due the above.

In my own totaly unscientific research, in the dark ages when I did paper rounds I did a couple of different rounds in different areas over the years.

One was delivering to large detatched houses in a posh area and one delivering to terraced & semi detached type houses in a normal area.

Bigger Xmas tips from the latter.

Case proven.

I'll go along with that, I used to do charity collections for the RNLI and it was just the same.

Most of the guys I know who are well off are not that way because of what they earn - it's because of what they don't spend.

Case in point: the Mars brothers used to come over to England 15 years ago (when I worked for that company) and would hire a 1.1 Fiesta to get around in. Their net worth at the time was north of $8billion.

yes I had the same when I was a kid. The people who gave the most were the little old lady OAP's in one bed flats.

There's a guy down the road over here (in Jersey) who has given every OAP on the Island a £100 food voucher for the last three Christmas' - around a million quid each time.

Snag is, even if most of us were careful with our money, we couldn't save $8billion.

This is a pet hate of mine. Although this practice isn't about wealth, it's about ignorance and rudeness. Plenty of people do it.

Why do millionnaires need to feel the need to distribute their wealth? If you want to aspire like them then you'll just need to take a leaf out of their book and try and earn your own cash.

It's this very attitude why there's so many people scrounging off the benefit system.

The lady I work for is a millionaire and she is very generous as well. Although I don't have a big wage I have loads of 'perks'.

However some of her older acquaintances are just like the one the OP described, especially the politician / bank type. Her younger rich friends that I have met are usually more free and easy with their money.

So maybe it's the older generation that are meaner?
