Any Estate Agents about?

Is there any rule regarding how long after a property is sold / let before the agent has to take down the Sale / To Let boards? Or can they just leave them up indefinately?

Cheers

Most agents farm this work out to a third party, so its as and when the lazy bds can get round to removing them.
I waited over a week once, so took it down myself.
I kid you not, the next morning some had put it back up again!!

They don't put them up in my area and (IMHO) the streets look a lot nicer for it.

I would guess the estate agents try and keep them up for as long as possible, as it's advertising for them.

They have to take them down within 14 days of the sale / letting completing. Town & Country Planning (control of Advertisements) Regulations 1992.

They will try and leave them up for advertising, however if you gently remind them of the act, they might take it down. If not, inform the local planning authority or OFT.

ETA: wrong act. Oops

Mine was up for nearly a year despite occasional calls to come and collect it.

One morning they came to work to find the stake end through their letterbox smile

I didn't have one on my last house move (Feb this year) and the time before I ripped it down the day I moved in, shoved it in the garage and 6 months later took it to the tip...

If they don't take it, it's firewood. Simple. Why put yourself to the hassle of chasing them.

Take it down and leave it out of sight somewhere, if they want it they can ask you for it.

why not take it down yourself?? The property is legally yours and therefore you can do what you like on your land!!

They're plastic (well, mine is anyway) - not great for burning....

I asked the estate agent to remove the sign a couple of days after we moved in here back in January 2004.

A little over two weeks later they called me and said they were surprised that they had been sent an invoice in favour of a charity amounting to £150 for the 15 days since notice was given to remove the sign - (£10 a day seemed fair for free advertising after all especially as they weren't slow at marking the sign with a 'SOLD stc' addition, apparently)

I replied that they would need to remove the sign before lunchtime on that day or I would drive to the nearest office, with the sign and drop it on their doorstep/chuck it through the door... and they should pay the invoice as it was intended to go to the local children's hospice.

To their credit, they took the sign away a few hours later and, I'm told, made a good contribution to the hospice in addition to £150.

Everybody was a winner - they got their sign back in one piece, we got the fekkin' sign taken away and the hospice got a nice bit of cash - perhaps the children there got a nice treat as well...

without wanting to sound too snotty - I suspect it would only work in relatively rural areas (like here) and then not so much these days anyhow...
