right, probably all of you have heard of people loosing there voice, be it from shouting too much, or throught cancer, having there vocal cords paralized so they cannot talk, but most times it will return after a while.

would it be possable for a person to go from talking normally, to not talking, even a single word for... 6 months.

could you effectivly get your point across via body language or would you just end up going mad, and when the 6 months was up, could you just start up talking again like normal.

(not trying to sound like an idiot, just been thinking about it as i saw a thing on TV about pychological problems, one girl just stopped talking for no reason and it took docters/pychs a good year to make her talk again)

I assume it was a result of a traumatic incident in their life? I think you will find it's not actually that uncommon.

.........

and yes it was a traumatising event that did it to her.

was just wondering PH's take on this, and could they actually go for that long without speaking. (not trying to say that PH should be quiet lol)

PTSD: It happens, surprisingly common actually when you see a traumatic act take place in front of you.

Spontaneous loss of sight, hearing, ability to speak; all art of the brains complex and not well understood coping mechanisms.

Why would you bother? confused

If she decided not to talk, does us all a favour and removed one female voice from the worlds equation. hehe

Has any research been carried out to discover a way that this condition can be triggered..........by a 3rd party?

I think this is surprisingly common in children who have been through a traumatic event. I'm sure you'd find cases of it on the internet.

It happens but not common. I see this sometimes in my work.

Elective Mutism, Dissociative aphasia, Catatonic Mutism, Conversion disorders are syndromes worth searching on google

selective mutism?

It'd be survivable certainly - use of sign language, typing etc would fill in many gaps.
