Earlier today I asked at the bank that I have my mortgage with about any good deals available at the moment and was told that they had some, but as interest rates were coming down by the end of the month, with further forecast drops later, I'd be no worse off sticking with my current mortgage.

No punchline, just makes a pleasant change from the usual bullshee-ite you normally get.

BUT at the end of the month the lower rate will kick in and save a lot more money long term?

Then ask them for a new good deal after the effects of the rate drop (if there is actually a noticeable difference AT ALL) - or even better, get to a good IFA or mortgage broker - your existing lender should be your last point of comparison as they are rarely the most competitive....
