Don't know. All I know is it was an rejected take-off.

Knowt wrong with that, he hadn't rotated by that stage, and doubt he had lift to get him up. If he had lost power, he would have stalled and smashed it into the runway.

Blew the tyres when he locked the brakes though, but I don't expect an IL-18 to have anti-lock brakes. He did overshoot, but it held together.

He might not have rotated by I suspect he was damn close to if not over V1. I guess the abortion was due to the flock of birds that he was about to fly into.

Can't remember whether this was posted here before or not:

Would you not reverse the props in a rejected t/o?

The first aircraft appeared to just disengage them. The engines were still running after he had stopped.

Quality Aussie comment...

"I'm running out of film, I hope I've got enough to film the crash."

It's from Hollywood..... forced perspective shot so the Catalina looks a whole lot closer than it is. The film is "Always" with Richard Dreyfuss et al.

Depends how they're rated. Chances are doing so might simply rip the wings off or damage the engines even more. A fully flat prop acts like a bloody great big air brake.

The IL-18 has turbo props, if the engine was still fully on and the props stopped and blades flattened (as they were) then it was employing a thrust reverser to try and slow it down.

Even though you've stated that it's how not to abort.

Nice video showing people hundreds of people burning to death in a plane crash by the way. Brilliant.

You clearly have no idea about what you are talking about regarding your idiotic comments about the original video do you understand the concept of V1 and rotation speeds?

I do thanks fella, I have done quite a few hours myself. In the first vid, I don't think he had even made V1, so cutting the power and aborting was about right. Yes he overshot, but at a relatively low speed.

As for the second vid, yes, people died. Did I mock them? Don't you still see clips of the World Trade Centre collapsing being broadcast or linked to? Quite a few more people died then.

If your going to add something constructive to the proceedings, then do so, I'll happily listen. Getting arsey like that makes you look like one.
