So there was I looking forward to watching the F1 race this afternoon and seeing if Mr Hamilton was going to extend his lead in the Championship...

(by the way if you don;t know the result stop reading now)

Now if it's football they give you plenty of warning - you can shut your eyes or stick your fiungers in your ears and go 'La la la' until it's over. But not Radio 4.

First news item: 'Gordon Brown meets the other passengers in Europe to see if they can stop the runaway train with some blu-tack'.

Second news item: 'Lewis Hamilton collided...'

So that's it. Three words and just one second in time wrecked my afternoon. Thanks Radio bloody 4. Had they started 'In the Japanese Grand Prix...' I'd have had time to stick my fingers in my ears and go 'La la la...' Grrr.

But my 8 year old tells me it is an interesting race - he watched the tale end of the race this morning!

I recorded it and watched it when I got up at 8am, I avoided the radio and TV before! Very interesting race and worth watching, some controversial decisions by the stewards and some hotheaded racing!

I often think this is deliberate action to reduce viewing figures for ITV. Which is fine by me.

I haven't seen it yet and probably won't, but if Hamilton had stuffed Massa from behind, he'd have been docked 10 points for being too aggressive. I bet they don't do it to Massa though... who is only doing as well as he is because of a lousy stewards decision a few races ago.

Spoiler coming up.......

I can't see how Hamilton can be given a penalty that hasn't been used before!

And to top it off, Massa collides with Bourdais, when the only person that could have not only seen the collision was going to happen but also could have given more room to avoid it was promoted a place because of it.

I hate how Ferrari seem to have the FIA under their control.

Why would he want to delete it?

Massa escaped with only a lousy drive through, and to make sure he wasn't penalised too much they made up a drive through for Hamilton just so Massa didn't lose ground in the championship.

Why would I want to do that? Presumably Massa *did* get docked 10 points or similar?

Another one that had planned to watch the race later on this afternoon and to avoid the news. Home page is Virgin media and the result was first thing I saw when I switched the cmp on.
I thought thanks a bunch mad

I'd stayed up to watch it, and I managed to fall asleep before the first pit stops frown

I recorded it and watched it from 0730, but avoided the news until then.

It is annoying. I was at Silverstone to see the LM series a few weeks ago during the grand prix. I avoided the result all day until i was at the burger van who had a radio on. Results came on just as he had handed me my burger and tea, had no way at all of covering my ears with my hands full of food. Bastids.

I was watching Eurosports repeat coverage of the MotoGP qualifying a few years ago and about 20 minutes in the qualifying result was scrolled accross the bottom of the screen along with some other news. I was proper perplexed at that decision I can tell you.

Yup

1 point gain? nah, not enough

Shall we penalise Bourdais in race? dont be silly, if we wait until after we can come up with a vaguely plausible excuse to knock 25 seconds

But Lewis, FFS, what was that start all about mate?

I think you'll find Radio 4 is actually one of the best.
