I've had mobiles since about 2000/2001. Until I started my previous job, these were all personal contract phones paying £25 to £45 per month.

My last job gave me a fully expensed (pre-pay) phone, so I ditched my personal contract and used the business phone for everything. I've now changed jobs and initially decided to run down the phone credit on my business phone (a really old Nokia brick) before taking out a personal contract. However, in 3 months I've used just a little over £2 credit! I find myself taking it with me less and less frequently when I go out. I don't need it any more. I'm thinking of ditching it completely.

Mobile phones have become 'the norm' now that I don't think I know anyone without a mobile. Anyone on here bereft of a mobile?

I lost my phone about 3 weeks ago and haven't got round to sorting a new one yet; can't say I've missed it that much to be honest.

The only long-term disadvantage is not being able to receive dirty picture messages from the ladies or have a bit of a text flirt but other than that it looks like a £40 / month clear saving!

I don't normally take it out with me unless i think I will need it. That is to say i do not carry a phone just so that others can call me.

I have an answering machine at home...

ETA: i bung about £10 credit on it every two months..

I use mine about once a month. It can go missing for days and I don't notice.

I only got on a contract a year ago... had PAYG for about 15 years. Why? Because I hardly make calls. The contract deal was good though: £10 for 300 minutes and 300 texts a month, any time, landline or mobile. That broke me. I still don't use the 300 minutes or texts, though. Maybe 150 of each a month?

I have my son's old Nokia 6610 I think it is - no camera, or music etc. I leave it in a drawer and then when I go on those long journeys (rare) I charge it up and take it in the car - otherwise no, I don't use or carry one day to day.

I have a work phone and a home phone so what is the point?

Nothing (well few things) annoy me more than people walking along a road with it out in fron of them texting ... (especially before 9am)

My 14yo daughter's phone starts getting texts about 7.30am every morning - ABOUT fkING WHAT?!

I'd have thought it's more a question of who bothers with a landline anymore? You can phone me on my mobile, which will ring wherever I am, or you can call on my landline which will ring somewhere else.

The only reason we have one is for the internet, what a scam!

I am still waiting to hear the news report about men all being made infertile by keeping mobiles next to their jewels for twelve hours a day.

Haven't mobile phones also decimated the population of house martins ?

I would always have one, just for security if nothing else, you never know what might happen and you need to get hold of someone. Phonebox's are not in abundance outide towns.
