So I’ve been offered this great fantastic job in a Lab, well paid and just what I want to be doing. One slight snag…the hours are 11pm to 7am eek. So for 5 nights a week I’d have to survive with just 5 hours of sleep per night due to classes wobble. Weekends are free however smile. It would only be for about six weeks until the semester ends.

So is it a realistic ask or will I just be too tired by Friday? Has anyone here done similar shifts?

Just 5 hours?

How will you cope?

Man up, you'll get all the sleep you need when you're dead.

5 hours you say? That used to be a dream of mine when I was on call 24/7 for a transport company.

I work 10pm to 8am 4 nights a week. Sometimes I don't get away on time so don't actually get home until gone 9am. I usually get by on 4 or 5 hours sleep in between shifts and then crash for 12hrs or so after my last shift of the week. Done it for 4 years now.

Grow a set. wink

Clinical trials? biggrin What are they going to inject into you?

Can't you do what most of us did, and sleep through classes?

Just as well, I already accepted the job.

There are only two joys in my life, sleeping in and sex...now I'll just be down to one frown.

Obviously, this being the internet, I survive on four seconds sleep a night. I'm 9'2", by the way...

More realistically, I'm not brilliant on five hours a night; I can tell the difference. But, if it is only for six weeks, you'll cope.

I'm terrible with sleeping. I find that if I don't get a good 6-8 hours I'm;

Yawning all day

Distant/ away with the fairies

Quiet

Have balancing problems sometimes

Eat crap for some reason

Crap at everything that involves a bit of thinking, like the other night I was nearly 7 balled playing pool ffs, had four hours sleep 12:30am to 4:30 am previous night and a similar amount the previous night.

I am determined to go a week where I'm in bed by 11 and get up at 7. I just get distracted quite easily, thats my problem. See I've been tired for the past couple of hours but I'm still here. I need to sort it out really.
