Finding a hospital/doctor's/dentist appointment out of work hours is difficult as they aren't open out of office hours.

I got a right earful from the boss last week for booking an appointment for 4.20pm when I finish at 5.

I had a dentis appointment this morning which I thought I could make with it being at 8.30 but upon arriving in town centre I realised that I couldn't make it back to work for 9am so I missed the appointment. When I arrived at work my boss wasn't in but came in at 9.20am saying that she had had a doctor's appointment. WHAT? What am I supposed to do.

Tell them you'll be in late due to a dentist appt...

Give them enough notice and there's not a lot they can do about it really. If they want to play silly buggers about it, find new employers, yours sound like s.

Are employers not legally obliged to allow you time for doctor and dentist appointments?

In a word ... no

and if they do allow time off, it does not have to be paid.

If you are not part of the solution then become part of the problem, because people who are the problem always get paid more and do what the bloody hell they like.

You need to bandy about the employees rights......

Your employer has to allow you reasonable time off to attend such appointments

Well, i'm propped up in bed after a hernia repair operation yesterday and my employers couldn't have been better. They asked how much time I needed, I said the consultant said a week, they didn't bat an eyelid..., bored now though... a little sore as well...

I don't think that they do per se.

They should, or else morale drops and people leave, but no, I don't think there is any legal requirement to permit time off for doctor/dentist appointments etc.

Kill her or find a better boss. I really dont understand people like that and if they treated me like that I would have sat down with them and said what are you playing at?

Ps, I know, I know my english is really poor!!
