Another easy goal for the Tories. Keep hihlighting what's planned and say "we wouldn't do it". Their stance on ID cards is rather popular.

No but the Gestapo will know what you were watching.

The database will fill up in days with SPAM and will thus be rendered useless. Have no fear! smile

That dreadful woman said:
"There are no plans for an enormous database which will contain the content of your emails, the texts that you send or the chats you have on the phone or online.

"Nor are we going to give local authorities the power to trawl through the database in the interests of investigating lower level criminality under the spurious cover of counter-terrorist legislation."
Yeah, right.

That st-thick munter needs slapping.

As for "winning public support"? Yes, pet. Just stand on a roof top and threaten to jump; you'll be surprised at the support you get.

They could never monitor people who didn't want to be monitored. All they will be doing is logging the average user who shouldn't be monitored in the first place.

If there are people using open emails for terrorism planning then they are most likely to be a bit simple and more likely to blow their own hands off.

Another waste of money.

Well, despite his anti-communist agenda and writing, Eric Blair (pure coincidence I'm sure!) was a committed socialist, so he might approve.

Time to setup an old pc to run as a gateway that puts everything through Tor methinks.

This is the bit that particularly worries me. This data is stored and then used, not for any attempt to combat terrorism, but by little people working in local gubbermental departments to ruin you personally.

Give little people influence, and they will abuse it. Happens all the time, read Private Eye for examples month after month

Maybe I'm missing the bit where they've said they're going to monitor everyone's emails, internet use and text messages indiscriminately, but I've just read that and taken it to mean they're going to give the security services more powers to monitor people they think need monitoring... I don't see how this is any worse than bugging phones and running surveillance as they do at the moment. Personally I'm all for them being able to monitor potential terrorists.

On the subject of TOR, google 'TOR server vulnerabilities'. MI5 have some rather intelligent people working for them, do you really think they couldn't get past something like that if they needed to?
