I've got all my cash in a US bank (Wells Fargo) at the moment and they just blocked my debit/ATM card - a oockup at their end that they've acknowledged as they didn't authorise use in the UK after I gave them the list of countries I'd be using it in.

They suggested they could send a new card to my local branch (after I told them I was now home rolleyes ) or send a new card to my registered address - unfortunately that's the hostel I was staying in at the time and I can't change it to a UK one.

Their online banking only allows me to transfer to another Wells Fargo customer.

So apparently the only option was to write a cheque to my UK account and pay it in - which I did on Monday. However, the bank here, Nationwide, said that above a certain limit, it could take weeks rather than days, but they couldn't tell me what that limit was. The cheque was for 4,100 USD and I'm starting to get a bit fidgety about whether it'll go through soon or not.

Sooo, all that preamble out the way, does anyone know of a relatively swift way to get the funds transferred (I'll cancel the cheque if I can find something quicker). Time is more important than money in this case, so a fee (within reason) is not out of the question. Remember, I have no card - just the bank account details.

Oh dear, you do seem to be in quite a pickle.

Still did you have a nice time in the USA?

Just did a quick google search, Wells Fargo has some sort of branch in the Docklands... might try giving them a call.

Slight Catch 22 there, seeing as all my money's in this US account biggrin

Velox - cheers, didn't think to see if there was a UK branch.

I just did a wire transfer from the HSBC in the UK to a Canadian bank, took one day. All you need is the account details and the swift/IBAN code.

Didn't you have to go to your HSBC branch to do that, though?
