As above - I've just bought a second hand laptop that smells of cigarette smoke. I'm a non-smoker and don't really like the smell so would like to remove it as best I can - any hints or tips please or is it a job for a pro?

Thanks in advance, Arry smile

wash it in you washing machine, not too hot a setting, the soap smell will cover the smoke smell easily. Dont leave outside to dry though, you may forget about it and the condensation in the morning air will ruin the delicate electrics.

Can of compressed air. Clear out all the vents.

Its more than likely to be smoke dust that it just lingering. Also go over it with a wet wipe.

Or start smoking so you dont notice it

Make sure you use plenty of fabric conditioner!

ETA: Beaten to it! Mind you, it is the most popular choice so far - I reckon you try it!

Aftershave and not the cheap stuff either, i'd recommend Lynx Africa.

dust out it's insides with duster (it feels like I'm walking on sunshine!) vacuum out all the crud from behind the keys and remove one by one (if you are confident you wont break them) to clean with alcohol (aftershave or cheap deoderant work really well!)

Its nicotine on the plastic. Same stuff as what makes ceilings in smoker's homes yellow.

Sugar Soap perhaps? I think you'll have to google 'remove nicotine from plastic' or similar.

Well really, what do you expect? Some miracle smell remover?

Strip it down to it's main bits, you know battery etc, I don't mean take out the innards. Then give it a wipe over with a damp cloth. Any lingering smell will dissapate in time.

What more serious advice than that do you expect?

Maybe get a can of spray deodorant and give it a quick squirt of that... but not the whole can down between the keys eh!

Leave it outside in the rain, a combination of wind & rain usually makes the air smell fresh, so it should do the same with your laptop!

Your common or garden household antibacterial wipes will do fine on the case and plastic bits and will probably get rid of the smell after a few tries.

Vacuum the keyboard thoroughly as the ash is in the under tray, and then get the smaller nozzle on the vacuum and put it against the processor cooling grill on the case and suck the dust out from inside.

HTH wink
