I need an action plan.....
Discussion
Bit of background.....
I split with the girlfriend of 4 1/2 years the weekeend before last.
We lived together in her house, in Essex and for the moment I'm still there, so obviously the sooner I'm out the better.
I work in London (Stratford, previously Shepherds Bush...I get all the good gigs
) and am currently commuting on the train, as I have been for the past two years...but that all looks set to change.
So, the way forward...my current line of thinking is to just move back to my parents for the immediate future, at least I'll be out of her house and I can start look at what to do about my living arrangements from there...plus my old ma only wants £250 / month all-in!
Obviously the commute into work won't be as easy, the train options aren't the best from whre my parents live, Cambridge is the nearest station with a direct train into London but the station is a 15-20 minute drive.
So on top of a no doubt increased season ticket cost, I'd have to add parking and petrol costs and this is going to eat into my alcohol / strippers / hookers / etc money.
The solution (as I see it) appears to be, to cash in the current season ticket, sell my car, sell my motocross bike, pay back the bit I owe on the car and with the proceeds buy myself a litre sports bike for the commute and some weekend fun (which would have been seriously frowned upon by the ex).
The way I'm looking at the whole situation is; I'll be back in my home town, close to my mates that I've rarely seen since moving away the best part of three years ago, I'll have a bit more disposable income each month to initially spunk on being young-ish free and single again before saving for a deposit for my own place and / or a place to rent, I'll have a bike that I've always wanted, I can do what I want, when I want and life will be peachy.
However, I have a tendency to sugar-coat everything while looking at it through my rose tinted glasses.
Am I going to be worn out by the commute and exhausted at the end of the day / week and not really enjoy my new found single life?
Am I going to get stuck in the "easy life" rut living at home, eventually buying an X-Box doing that on-line gaming thing 24/7 between w
ks and become one of those losery people that no-one want to be or be around?
Should I rent somewhere close to work, have no commute to sepak of and just go home or do whatever I want at weekends?...but then paying London rent prices, will I ever get out of the renting cycle and what about that bike I wanted?
As you have probably gathered, I'm not 100% sure which way to go, the only certain thing is that I need to do something quickly, as in, within a couple of weeks.
So PHers, if you were in my situation what would you do? The alcohol, strippers, etc etc are a given but in terms of where to live, how to get to work etc, how would you go about it?
If you've managed to read this far then, thank you.
If you don't give a s
t and feel that you have wasted 3 minutes of your life, that you won't ever get back, then you really should have planned it better and had a RedTube clip downloading at the same time or something.
Yours
Rob

Hello Rob,
Get the R1, and move halfway in. Commute on the bike, job's a goodun.
ps - Been there mate, and the sooner you do it the better.
But that then opens up a whole new dilemma.....what's better the R1 or the Blade? Get the R1, and move halfway in. Commute on the bike, job's a goodun.

Step 1: Move closer to work, shared house or flat in the short term. This means will not be moping around either at your folks house or living on your own. Also means you can bone your way through said housemates friends, thus enjoying the single life to a fuller extent.
Step 2: Being closer to work means you can focus more on it, get a promotion, payrise thus paving the way to the R1.
Step 3: Get a better/fitter bird than the ex
Step 4: Wait 3-4 years (max)
Step 5: See step 3

Im actually quite envious tbh! Break-ups are pants but once the first month or so is over, single life can actually appear quite rosey.
Ive given this scenario a lot of thought (especially when arguing with the other half) and I always come to the conclsuion that I would move home for a few years, eat well, have s
tloads in the bank and just enjoy myself for a few years. I would look for work closer to home though, but the commute probably wont be a problem as I will have far more of my 'own time' on my hands
GL with whatever you decide

There's a guy at my office who rides to Docklands from the Cambridge area daily. He has a VFR and a Bandit, usually commuting on the Bandit. I used to commute on my Sprint ST, now I have a BMW. I'd suggest a sports bike may not stand up to commuting, also your forward visibility may be affected by the raked riding position and you're not as visible by others. You might want to think about a commuter bike with heated grips and a decent fairing and a fun bike for weekends and for when the other one is in for servicing. You'll get through tyres fairly quickly too!

How old are you? You'd rather live with your mum and dad and 'spunk' money on the single life for a while?
Cut out step 2, sell all the s
te and rent a place (or share) closer to work.
Why would anyone want to move back in with mummy?
I'm 27 and no, I don't *want* to move back in with the old dear, I was thinking more along the lines of; get out right now, the only place to go is home and move on from there in a month or two when I've got myself sorted.Cut out step 2, sell all the s

I definitely *do* want to spunk some money away on the single life! Don't get me wrong, I haven't been a hermit by any means but when I think about it, I've been in bloody relationships for about 10 years.

I was looking at the VFR 800 and BMW R1100S (see Biker Forum) originally but since I've started to look forward to this single life stuff the R1 and Blade are appealing more and more!
In all seriousness, if the daily bike commute is the way I end up going, I'll be getting the best bike for the job and not just the one I think will bag me the most women.....I think....

Stop being all sensible. The tight lock on a sports bike can be a PITA in traffic too.
I moved out a week last Monday. Stayed in a hotel for a week then friends for the weekend. Managed to negotiate a 3 month rental of a part furnished flat in Northampton near where I work. Went to Comet, Ikea and Tescos in one night and now have all the essentials.
Mates have been great in terms of offering night outs and keeping me occupied. Will see how life is like in a month or so as I am still very discombobulated at the moment.

You work in London. Get a room (in a shared house or in digs) in london. as close to work as humanly possible. So you can walk if possible. No matter how small. My nephew was renting a room in NE london (Near East 15 Drama College) 8 foot square, close to tube, all bills and internet access, for only £250 a month. There was space in the back garden for motorbikes.
