... around 1830 or so? I've never seen anything like it. It was a full moon very low in the sky and very bright. It was quite beautiful and remarkable.

Was there a solar event that I had missed?

Are you sure it wasn't the sunset?

Had you previously smoked or eaten anything that perhaps you shouldn't have?

yes I noticed it to the point where I went to fetch binoculars and looked at it with my little boy. Very bright indeed!

I saw it too, harvest moon is it not? The point in the year when the moon is closest to us here in the UK?

It really was stunning from my parts. Low and bright and framed with strung out clouds. Beautiful!

it'll be the harvest moon, or the one after it...I forget the exact dates.

At this time of year, the moon is always very low in the sky, and closer to the earth so it appears larger.

ETA I'll be captain slow then!

Yep, walking alongside the Thames last night, 'twas quite amazing. I noticed during the weekend that it seemed to be much brighter than normal. The harvest moon could explain it! thumbup

I'll support you on this one - I'd just left work and was totally amazed by it. The moon was huge, extremely low and had a slight orangey/yellow tint to it. It was obviously reflecting back from the totally stunning sunset happening over the opposite side of the horizon.

Had a good view of it pretty much all the way home too on dark country roads - was totally stunning. Things like that makes you realise just how small you are in the world.

I recall a radio 4 program about the Harvest moon - apparently there is some weird phenomenom around it, when photographed and measured it is no (or very little) bigger than any other full moon, or any other time of the same night, but to the human eye (or brain) it looks much larger. Something to do with how close it is to the horizon.

But yes, I saw it.

ETA: Was it a hunters moon rather than harvest moon?
