My OH < {see, im learning not to say my 'girl' wink ) decided to try and impress me with a fun fact she got from Elle Decor magazine. it didnt make much sense to me, so I asked her to show it to me. This is what it says: London has the highest average housing price per square foot in the world: $6,191

Can someone please explain that, I dont understand how they ended up with that figure.

EDITED TO READ $6,191

Took the total value and divided it by the total square footage?

Take Kensington Palace Gardens as an example.

Over $1Bn of housing on that one street alone.

I wonder what NYC is in comparison to London.

Not a million miles behind but then its miniscule in comparison, depending on your definition of how large London is.

The stat sounds like bks to me.

$6 psf? I'll take pretty much anything I can at £3.50 psf in London! A family home would only be about £15k

I'd have thought a house/flat in a good area of London would be maybe £900psf to buy. So maybe the average is somewhere in the region of £300psf?

ETA, if your post is a typo and its $6,191 then it sounds too high. A 2000sq ft flat/mews house would be over £7m. Property is expensive but not that expensive.

But that will be in Honky Dollars.

Honkers is about 20% ahead of singapore, and i get 140sg/m in singapore with sea fiews and facilities for the same as 40sq/m in a house conversion in East London.

Also prices in Central are high in Honkers (same as District 9 & 10 in singa) but significantly cheaper as you head out.

In london its all soddin expensive, with a much larger "very expensive" bit biggrin

average? erm... samverage??

Pointless calculation really, they will be taking into account the mental expensive property, the road mentioned earlier for example, and working out a mean average with properties in utter fking dumps in the east end and south london where housing is a fraction of the cost.

Stupidly high priced stuff will always scew the figure (if there is enough of it, which in london there is)

Thats £3500/ft in proper money.

I'd say thats about right, as an average for London, all things considered.
