Hi all,

I'm attending a birthday bash this evening and know that a certain amount of alcohol will be consumed. However, I'm suffering a little at the moment with a sore throat. Common sense would dictate that I abstain from drinking alcohol tonight; however, I have no common sense, and therefore know that I will be downing a drink or seven.

So, as means to damage limitation, what would be the most 'sympathetic' drink to be having this evening? Lager? G&T? Vodka and mixer? Anything else?

Cheers,

EYW

It will just make the sore throat last longer. It's odd cos you'd think alcohol would kill the germs. Might as well just go hell for leather...

Gargle with the contents of a bottle of whisky. If your sore throat persists, do more cocaine.

Beer certainly is no good as I've found out today with a throat like sandpaper!

I'm guessing that something which isn't fizzy is probably the best bet, so vodka and orange might be an idea.

A couple of shots of sambucca to numb, then you should be OK to follow that up with whatever you fancy. Never been good at sympathetic. beer

ETA Tea with honey this afternoon is good for sore throats so may be worthwhile getting a couple of those down you. Used to have this when I sang.

I used to find whisky with hot lemon helped. Maybe have a couple before you go.

That's a point. Doesn't coke numb the area it touches? Not that I'm suggesting the OPer takes coke!!! Was just speaking to an anaesthetist about various substances and the effect on the body (as an aside, she didn't know rohypnol and ketamine were used as date rape drugs!).

I'd steer clear of cider.

I've gone out before without a sore throat, drank cider all night, and then woke up with a sore throat. This has happened a few times now.

I don't get it with any other drink

Go out and get some Tyrozets, quickly. You won't have a sore throat any more.

Apparently if your blood alcohol level gets high enough it makes your body so inhospitable to life that it really will kill bugs off.

Might kill you too, mind. nuts

Honestly, try these. They're the only things that have ever done the trick for me with sore throats...

Struggling a little, but definitely here for now. Got one planned hospital admission and possibly two semi-planned ("that's really going to need some attention soon" type thing) coming up but hopefully after that I'll have a fully working complement of extra orifices.
