Gentle warning to those holders of Student Loans....

No. It's not any silly Credit Crunch-esque "Interest rates set to soar" or anything.
I've received my annual statement today for LAST tax year. I had been waiting for this for ages and was assured that it would be updated as soon as the Inland Revenue lets them know the contributions made.
Sure enough, I saw that they deducted about £1500 from last tax year, but thought that the figures still seemed a little high.
Luckily I am the sort of person who holds on to financial correspondence (Albeit in an unorganised, chuck it in a box type of way).
Despite having paid around £1000 in Student Loan contributions in 2006/7, this has not come off my outstanding loan!
This really, really boils my piss. If the IR have given SLC the figures for 2007/8, there is no way the figures for 2006/7 would be chased up at any later stage. Effectively those payments are lost in the ether!
I will sort it out on Monday, and I expect that it will be sorted. However, if I hadn't checked, I would have lost £1000!
If you've got a student loan, check the contributions make it onto a statement for EVERY tax year. When statements are routinely 1yr late, this isn't always easy.
As you were!!

My mate paid his off (when checking back) but they were still taking money for I think about 18 mths..... He only worked it out when someone he was at uni with was saying how pleased he was to have paid off his student loan, and my mate then wondered why his wasn't paid off yet.......
Just got a letter through the door from the SLC and now you can view your account balance online http://www.studentloanrepayment.co.uk
You need to get an ART ID and a password and secret answer which they will send through the post, you need to ring 0870 240 6298 to register. Glad they've just told me know i've paid it all off.

Bunch of idiots. It would be against the law to run a bank the way they do FFS.
Every year mine is wrong.
Then they "advertise" increasing the salary threshold to £15k (from £11k) without explaining that effectively means you pay much more over the term of the loan.
I'm sure not many people see it this way and think they are getting a good deal

Ah, well I was a student in the days of (the for some reason now reviled) Mrs T, and in those days we had grants.
Aye, it were cracking, them days...
Oh yes I had a grant - £295 in total. Apparently my parents had jobs so they were to fund me. (They paid £212 a month for 29 months spread across 4 years) Aye, it were cracking, them days...

Are they FSA regulated?
Interesting to see if they were. They are one of the biggest bunch of tossers I've had the misfortune to deal with.I've been trying to organise my repayment plan with them yet they insist on seeing my Austrian tax return and payslips before deciding my payment plan. As far as I'm concerned, this is no business of theirs and I refuse point blank to hand this information over to them.
They in turn insisted they needed proof of earnings so I provided them with a signed / stamped letter of earnings from my HR department which they rejected.
