Ok so I need a new hallway carpet & possibly bedroom carpet & possibly living room... hell maybe the whole lot.

Question is where is the best place to buy one & which sort should I buy for a tennant house? I always live in the house to start with and then after a few years move out leaving a good carpet there however this one has really had it.

Styles/options welcomed.

Thanks.

The cheapest most hard-wearing one you can find, preferably dark coloured.

That makes no sense.

What on earth are you attempting to say?

I do landlords carpet a fiver a yard any colour, although I'probably only become usefull if you live around lancashire.

ps don't go for anything wool, it dosn't last as long and can stain like a good en!

Going on past experience with rented property. Spit and sawdust should suffice.

Then charge the buggers for for S&SD when they leave as they've marked the stuff that was already there.

hth.

No many many miles away!
So should I just go to the local carpet right (or similar) and just ask for landlord type carpet? (being serious).

Also with underlay - as Im going to be buying a cheap carpet - there is very old underlay underneath it currently should I just reuse that and when the new carpet wears out replace it again & only then with new underlay? Knowing the carpet might only last 5 years tops - & that underlay is to protect the carpet/extend its life is there any point?

Also roughly for a 1920's std semi roughly how much should i be looking at to recarpet the whole house?
Cheap is certainly what Im after.

idea

Rearrange the furniture onto the worn areas?

Spray paint the bald patches? No?

Turn the existing carpet over? Should get another 5years out of it.

a landlords carpet will probably only last around a couple of years at that sort of price, you'd be looking at probably at say a couple of 10ft x13 beds £150 a main bed say 13x15 £100, hall stairs and landing say 13x16 £120, a lounge 15x13 £100, dining room 11x13 £80 quid ish

so you'd be looking around £600 quid ish just for the carpet excluding fitting, underlay and grippers etc.

use the old underlay as it would cost you a few hundred for that and your probably looking at a few hundred for fitting give or take.

stick to looking at the stuff thats around £5-6 a yard you'd be ok at carpet right or world or whatever for that kind of thing, whatever you do, do not buy gripper rods, underlay or doorplates off them they are a right con and most of the fitters are st !

Feck carpets!

With tenants, laminate flooring is the way to go.

have to agree, laminates seem better for tenants, easier to clean for one.

moved into house several years back, most of the lounge is covered in furs anyway and rugs on the other places, carpet is red of some sort, if it was replaced, would be laminate as well

Don't do what my last landlord did and fit a white fuffy woolly carpet. They're an absolute nightmare to keep clean - in 2 years I failed spectacularly. The carpet was already half gone when I moved in, I think 2 years with a single bloke in there finished it off.

Get polypropoline carpet,(or whatever the correct spelling is, I am sure someone will correct it for me!) It lasts forever, can be rubber backed so no underlay needed, not much stains it & most things just vac off it. Should be able to do a deal on a decent amount at about £6 a square metre.
