I was out walking my dog along the river late yesterday afternoon, when I stumbled across a very distressed foreign chap in his 70s. It turned out he'd lost his wife and asked if I'd seen her. I hadn't, and it turned out neither had he for about an hour, hence his panic. His next question was if there was some kind of emergency services for this sort of thing, to which I informed him that it was his lucky day as I was a member or the local team - now those are pretty long odds given the size of the patch we cover. It was pretty fortunate as there can be some considerable delay between the police being informed and them calling out an MR team. Luckily for him I was able to get them mobilised immediately. And to cut a long story short, she turned up safe and well back at his car just after dark, as we were about to start the search.

One of us should be buying a lottery ticket this weekend hehe

I used to live in the Wasdale valley and MR were always on the go rescuing idiot tourists. My favourite was a woman who got stuck, with her husband, on the lower slopes of Scafell (the highest mountain in England). Not only was she dressed in a skirt and high heels, she was also four months pregnant.
