Does anyone know anything about it at all? We are going via the medical route also, but does anyone know of any private practices that are willing to take children.

Wits end doesn't even cover it - I'm off my food (and those who know, or have seen me, know this is serious!)

Cheers.

frown

I would have thought that most Private CBT practitioners would talk to kids too, or at least be able to recommend one locally biggrin

I know that at the 'rooms' my therapist used there were business cards for 'kid specialists' if that helps, but they are too far away for you frown

Hmmm... perhaps I should look adult ones up and take a drive. Thanks - that has considerably brightened my day.

Are you talking little children, or bigger children?

Contact your local health authority and they should be able to put you in touch with someone local but private.

A quick google brings these up:

http://www.hampshirepsychology.co.uk/
http://www.charterhousecounselling.co.uk/

No idea what they are like, but I'm sure a phone call to them to discuss therapy will be enough to decide if they are the kind of people who could help.

Good luck smile

CBT is in now way frounded upon in children; in fact is becoming more and more prevelant. I know the World Health Orginsation have expressed a preference for it so you shoudln't encounter much resistance along the lines of 'its only for adults'.

Thank you all. I will follow up all leads. She's 13, with a lot of issues. I asked about CBT, as I was able to reprogramme her bed wetting (took 2 weeks), so hopefully it can help.

Isn't it amazing how children can drive you to the point of not even thinking to Google correctly?

Never mind. Cheers all. Liquid dinner for me tonight.

Hello mate, sorry to hear of your troubles....
I practice CBT, however I mostly work with adults... the other halfs mother however is a Doctor of Psychology, specifically child educational psychology.... This field encompasses a range of areas, and a variety of techniques which can be utilised. If in any way either I or the "war cabinet" can be of help, drop us a PM

You might want to use the British Psychological Society register - http://www.bps.org.uk/e-services/find-a-psychologi...

As far as I know, clinical psychologists get the most thorough training in CBT. If I was after talking therapy for me or mine, it's one of them I'd go see, not a counsellor or "practitioner". They have a proper complaints procedure, CPD checks, etc. Plus, the people who end up doing a clinical psych doctorate are usually pretty switched on - it's tough to get on a course.
