Read on Tinterweb that Nu Labour have a "rapid rebuttal unit" of people who are paid to lurk in web forums and react to anti- Government sentiment and spin the Gov's lines.

It's been set up by Derek Draper.

So, are there any on here and how do we spot them?

And if we do find them, what should we do?

As far as I'm concerned they are defending the indefensible.

So what should we do with any we uncover?

I'm on my blackberry - but google Derek Draper and rapid rebuttal unit and there is a link to something in the Independent I think.

Obviously no such people exist, don't believe everything you read on the internet.

The government are doing an excellent job, and therefore have nothing to hide.

Seriously though, there must be some people who still back Labour, and surely they'd defend them as readily as others would sl@g them off

I think it is fair to point out (and I am no big Gordy fan) that assuming that anyone who disagrees with some of the right-wing bks that gets spouted on here is in the pay of the Government is taking paranoia a step too far smile

Regardless of the politics, I am fascinated by how media has evolved to the extent that people are now paid to surf on web forums in order to try and influence opinion.

Who would have thought it?

Tinternet has certainly changed things.

I'm pretty sure they are here and I think I've identified a few in the past.

PH has been less political in the last 18 months though so its not quite so easy to spot them now. Also, they use historical userids, so again slightly more difficult to spot.

Met a bloke in the pub earlier in the year who works for a marketing company that does exactly this commercially. People are employed to not just spam forums but become part of a community and influence opinion towards a product over a long period in a subtle manner.

Was well aware of PH and said that they had run trials over months here.

Fascinating really.

I'll do an 'honest' engineering analysis of an engine and post it and If I'm paid to post the verdict I can do that too, for a small fee biggrin

The rabid anti-Labour sentiment on PH is perfectly OK as far as I am concerned. More of it would be nice.

I genuinely think, however, that the anti Gubberment feeling is down to the fact that they are so staggeringly rubbish at what they are doing. At every level.

If the Tories in power also turn out to be useless, I don't for a moment think that the PH collective would allow them a very long honeymoon period.

So I don't agree that PH is intrinsically pro-Tory, other than the fact that many here would like to see Brown thrown out on to his unelected arse and the Tory boys given a go at things.

Trivia point : Labour propogandist Derek Draper, the architect of the Labour blogging team, is apparently the OH of GMTV's Kate Garraway.

Amazing how being a fat socialist with the ability to defend the indefensible can attract the Girls.
