I'm quite shocked, amused, bewildered and basically gobsmacked to find out a girl I was 'seeing' (not exactly dating - all indoors stuff) not more than four months ago is now engaged to somebody. I mean WTF?!? I know there are no set rules to this type of thing but bloody hell...four months!!! How crazy?

You may, or may not, consider that a dodged bullet.

Conclusions could be drawn.

Why dont blokes just cut out the middleman and find a woman they hate and just give them half of what they own!!! easier and less hastle!

I was engaged within a month, we've been together 8 years.

There is also some evidence couples who get engaged/married quickly have lesser divorce rates than those with prolonged engagements.

Engaged within a month!?! Did you not fear she might think you were an exceptionally clingy psycho???

Yes but engaged doesn't necessarily mean she will end up marrying him.
I've been engaged nearly half of my life and before you ask, yes to the same guy.
I'd just like to point out, i was very young biggrin

Yeah, obviously agreeing to marry someone doesn't actually mean you have any intention of marrying them...its just an excuse to get a nice ring. I know.

Damn it, now I need to find a new fk buddy.

I found out recently that if the engagement is broken off, the woman is legally obliged ot give the ring bk of he askes for it as it was not a gift as such it was/is a promise to marry or something like that.. bit mad! but cheaper if your one of those serial engagment people...

MY mate has been engaged about 7/8 times... he is 26... to put this into perspective I have never been engaged nor given a woman any inclanation hat that would be my intention....

I am of course single probably as a result of this!!!

I've been engaged twice. Once after 5yrs, the other after 2.5yrs. But I just can't imagine asking a woman I've known for a matter of weeks to commit to the rest of our lives. Its crazy.

No. First was manic depressive, second was serial sex machine. I don't half pick 'em!

I'm 23, and only found out recently that my parents had only known each other for 3 months when they get married, and they were 20/21! I'm yet to have any particularly serious relationships, just a string of one hit wonders....

Anyway, they're still married after 25 odd years and I don't see that changing.
