Recommend me a current account :)
Discussion
Hi guys,
I've been looking for a new current account for me and the bird, to put is simply I'm sick of getting multiple £35 charges from the Halifax for poxy things. Is there a fair current account out there? I know step 1 is to control my finances better but a better account will help no end.
Any info would be great

I was in that situation a couple of years ago, the only way that you won't get charged (with any account) is if you don't got over your agreed overdraft limit.
I'm currently waiting on the court case about deciding if their "charges" are legal as i tried to claim mine back (over £600).
Thankfully i'm now back well into the black.

You will get a load of posts saying go for First Direct i expect.
I have been with Barclays for over 20 years and my family for many, many, years before i was even an itch. Only ever had one issue with them in all that time which wa in relation to a mortgage redemption penalty miscalculation. Two letters and it was sorted and they even gave me an unsolicited cheque for my time and trouble. I honestly can't ever see me changing.

It seems that the only thing that is annoying you is your own inability to spend within limits. What else annoys you about your current bank? If nothing, just learn to manage your money better and stay where you are; it'll help your credit score if you are planning on borrowing any money or getting a new credit card anytime soon.I've been looking for a new current account for me and the bird, to put is simply I'm sick of getting multiple £35 charges from the Halifax for poxy things. We do try but sometimes you get naff little things for £1.99 knocking us over the agreed overdraft incuring the wrath of the charging sytem, usually £35!V8mate said:

Hate that guy with the glasses in all the adverts, wanna knock him out. "who gives you extra...."Hate the fact the nice looking girls in the branch left a few months back.
Hate the 18 year old call centre worker sitting on their high horse telling us off for going over our overdraft
Frankly, anyone can make a mistake. It's incredibly easy to forget about a direct debit for something minor like a magazine sub or similar - particularly when they only come of every 6 months or so.
That's what happened to me this week and those lovely people at Nat West have charged £38 for me being overdrawn by £15 for all of 3 hours!
Yes, my error for forgetting the dd, but it was debited at 9 am and there was cash in to cover it by 12pm. To charge £38 for this is theft and nothing else.
I'm all for charges to cover reasonable expenses, but that's ridiculous.
I'd like to join the OP in asking which bank has a fair policy relating to charges?

Nationwide.
I'll second that one
Very happy with Nationwide and I have had a few accounts to search for "better" ones!

Though Nationwide will not do interest free overdrafts.
This meant that although we paid a few pence interest we did not get charged for an unauthorised overdraft or the cost of them declining payment.
The no charge policy on foreign cash withdrawals means we don't buy travellers cheques and just use cash points as we would here and just get charged that day's currency rate.
