Short Winter Break -Midlands / North Area - Any Ideas?
Discussion
Anywhere on the east coast, at this time of year, could be decidedly chilly. Think about Pickering in N Yorkshire. Lovely little town, (The White Swan is a great hotel, but not cheap), and it's one end of the North Yorks Moors Railway, (NYMR), which runs proper steam trains through "Heartbeat" country out to Whitby on the coast. Whitby has Dracula connections, beach, nice town and brilliant fish & chips. Be warned, though. Getting a little 'un onto a real steam train at 1 year old might set him off for life ! Google NYMR to see if it's still running/timetable etc, (I think it closes end-Oct).
Or how about York ? Lots to see, incl the "Jorvik" museum which is brilliant and not yer usual museum. Not sure Little Russ will give a monkey's where you go but you'll want something to keep you interested.

Try anywhere in an around Birmingham to stay, the "Black Country Museum" is a top visit, good look around for us oldies, with a 1730's fair, trams & street cars for the little 'un to be kept interested, and I suppose the big 'uns as well.
Plus the Motor Museum in Coventry, even got a "Thrust 22 simulation there to enjoy, not to mention cars cars cars..........
