Ordered a leaflet rack a few days ago, and this morning it turns up. Not one of them, but 10 of them. I told the driver that we had only ordered 1, but didn't have time to check my documents. I told both the driver and his helper that they would be back. They didn't care.

They leave, and I eventually get the company on the phone. Yep, they've made a mistake. They've sent goods to the value of £800 by accident to me. You would think at this point that they'd let me have an extra one for getting onto them so quickly. The company concerned were so pleased that I had actually called them about this.

I mean, I could have just kept my mouth shut and sat on the whole lot. Trouble is they are cluttering up the place. Anyway, she calls back and says they'll be collected Monday, and all 9 will be collected. So, I'm sitting here with 9 boxes cluttering up the place, and getting f*ck all for it.

Anyone any ideas?

Remove one from the box and replace with something of equal weight (and sound if they rattle it) or curl one out in the box to at least make yourself feel a little better?

FF'sS - someone makes a mistake and you want a reward for telling them.

What a crap attitude.

you were expecting them to give you £90 worth of stuff for you being honest and doing the right thing?

Did you only do the honest and correct thing because you expected some kind of reward? I trust that you never make any mistakes and that, if you do, you richly reward anyone who kindly points this out to you.

You know, I would reward someone who pointed out my mistake. £800 of stock potentially was about to go missing, that is worthy of an awful lot of thanks.

Instead, I'm asked to keep them secure for 4 days until they can pick them up. So, they are going to be under foot for 4 days, and I have to stick around the place on Monday because they can't even give me a time that they'll be collected. And all this hassle for someone's mistake?

Caterham sent an extra set of wheels and tyres with a kit years ago. They were the wrong fitment for that particular kit. We repeatedly told them they'd made a mistake and they kept saying they'd ring back later to sort something out.

Eventually gave up and sold them after letting them gather dust in the garage for a couple of years.

Gees, fair enough, to save UK PLC a bit of money in the amount of time spent on PH posts, I shall apologise.

I should just accept that I should accept nothing more a "thanks for telling us, can we use you as temporary storage facility in the meantime" as my compensation for being a good person in reporting their mistake promptly.

My bad as they say.

We still had hangovers from the "It's finished, lets try it out, oh look they sent us the wrong clutch and it won't move, we'll have to take the engine/box out again and get them to send the right clutch" party...

If Mondays not convenient why didn't you tell them to collect them some time that works for you? If you don't have the space to store them ask them to collect them sooner.

I wasn't suggesting that you needed to make a big sacrifice for them. Just that letting them know was the right thing to do. I just don't understand why everyone expects to be automatically rewarded for being nice.

I've politely asked them to collect tomorrow which they are working on now.
