I need a new pair of shoes, been searching for AGES in the shops but haven't found anything that fits the bill

Unliek the other thread I don;t wnat a pair of custom made or pair of shoes that will cost £300 and last 20 years. I am happy to pay £50 for a years worth if they fit the bill...

criteria

- black

- loafer/slips ons if possible but will do with laces if I have to

- have to be formal but I can stretch that definition at my workplace

- most importantly COMFORTABLE. I wnat shoes that are soft and trainer like inside but I cannot seem to find anything that fits the bit

Willing to spend upto about £100 for the right pair I'd say.

Will probably be have to be bought online now unless someone can name a decent shop in Hampshire.

Any ideas on some good brands? (I have been to most big name high street stores)

Loake or Church, Grensons good for slip-ons.
wouldn't recommend buying on-line for shoes unless you know they're right for you.

Hush Puppies, they look like real shoes but feel like trainers.

Expensive English shoes are all very well, but if you walk they aren't exactly comfortable.

Not known for their shoes, but I have a pair of Gant loafers which are like slippers to wear. Around £100 IIRC.

M&S do some slip on loafers (think they are called airflex) which are very comfy - like wearing trainers.

My mate works as a designer for one of their suppliers & picked my up some from the factory. Not something I would necessarily buy myself as I'm not really a loafer fan but no doubting how nice they are to wear.

Anything from this range:

Been wearing 'Airflex' shoes for work for years - anything else now hurts my feet.

There's a good mix of formal and casual in the range.

That's exactly the type I've been wearing for the past 18 months.

Very nice for driving in, too.

I was it the same position - well maybe up to £45. Then I stumbled into Shoe Express and much to my surprise found a perfect pair for £10! Very light, very comfy and velcro strap for fastening. I use them for weddings when I have to be on my feet all day and look smart.

Thanks.

I've spent far too much money on getting it looking like that.

Enough to buy well over 100 pairs of those shoes eek

Jeffrey West for me (proper English hand made shoes). If you buy at a JW store expect to pay £175+ a pair. I found out that he also makes shoes for Marks and Spencer (and they are circa £60). I have two pairs of the expensive ones and three of the M&S ones. The expensive ones are much nicer but I don't think they are £110 nicer.

Have a look in Jones the Bootmaker (but only if they have a sale on) and TK Maxx.

been to m and s multiple times and didn't find anything i liked.

i will probably have to resort to laces as loafers seem to be a bit rarer.

what really pisses me off is that i found a pair of shoes in Shoe Express a few years back for £30 that were literally trainers on the inside and shoes on the outside.
