Just a quick question .My Sky+ box has died and they have offered to replace it with a new Sky+/HD one so is it worth the extra £10 a month or am I better off saving my hard earned smile

It largely depends on what you watch, if you like to watch sports then its probably worth it, if you dont and would only have it for the movies then a bluray player is a better investment. IMHO.

General opinion is that it's not worth the extra. Yet.

Give Sky time and they'll drop the monthly fee smile (classic skimming they always do!)

Depends on your screen size, if you have 40" or more the difference in picture quality will amaze. If you watch a lots of films, sport and documentaries I'd say it's worth it.

Total tangent I know but I don't get those Sky HD adverts on the tele, there is no doubt that the pictures in them are much crisper, with better colour definition and more depth but how do they do that when I've only got an SD box and I assume signal?

I agree - it depends on what you watch. We like the big budget US sci-fi shows - which are all better in HD. Sports like Golf is brilliant in HD

There are now about 20 HD channels from Discovery and Nat Geo to the movies and sports.

We have it - and I reckon it IS worth it.

4' 6"?

Seconded. I havent seen sky HD but have had Freesat HD for a while and to be honest apart from the Euro's 2008 its fairly uninspiring. Yes it does look better, movies and documentaries, but not that much that I would pay for it.

Stuff filmed with the modern HD cameras looks better even when broadcast in SD. But I assure you this is nothing to what it looks like in real HD.

HD is worth it. Whether or not Sky HD is worth it depends on whether or not you like the content. But there is the Freesat alternative that you can, in theory, get BBC HD on...

tell them that as it is broken you are looking at other options for tv..... you could get it for free if you play your cards right (and you have been a long term subscriber).

It's.... OK.

You don't really get the benefit of the extra storage as half of it is reserved for the crap the actively download onto the box.
HD takes up a lot of space, and a lot of the content is upscaled anyway.

It does seem to upscale normal stuff tho, and when you watch eg a movie in HD, it's great.
Lord Of The Rings on C4HD was stunning.

Can't get all the terrestrial channels in HD tho, despite what the salesliars may tell you.

They do reserve half, but Sky Anytime is good - no adverts! Makes a big difference on programs like Fringe whcih you can watch all the way through without being disturbed.

That's just because they're still images. It's got nothing to do with actual HD if you are watching it in SD as that's just impossible.

Just got off the phone to them, £5 a month for the first 6 months and told to ring back and complain about the cost when the 6 months are up and they will prob do the same deal again

The AV installer admits downloading, tut tut.

Do you mind me asking what company you own? lick
