Can a senior manager dictate the dress code in an office includes a tie?

The manager in question just happens to be female...

I have no idea, but then I've never worn any sort of formal attire to work. It's jeans, t-shirt and work boots for me...

Maybe she gets a slippy minge when you wear it.

Wear a burkha over your t-shirt and jeans. They can't deprive you of your religious rights.

I think they can if it states in the dress code you need to wear a tie.

Or if says that dress code is down to the Senior Manager's perception of appropriate business dress.

We're had the same problems here - check you HR policy guidelines. I would think they can demand a tie though.

Also, smarten up FFS!

If she's happy to wear a noose around her neck all day, then I will too...

Am I alone in actually liking the fact that I wear a suit to work?

Not at all

It is smart and looks good on most men. If it was smart casual every day you would have the problem that allot of people don;t know how to dress smart casual.

No.

A good suit, a white double cuff shirt and links, black socks and plain tie are all you need.

Garnish with a simple but expensive watch and a pair of plain high quality brogues.

Watch the ladies slide off their chairs.

Personally I have no problem wearing a tie as it just feels like part of my natural business attire.

However, I do have a problem with the dual standrds that seem to best most offices where men are expected to wear a shirt, tie and in many cases a suit and yet the females come to work in totally inappropriate and in some cases down right scruffy attire. Never mind the cut off tops and low cut trousers (good in one sense but hardly appropriate).
