I'm getting sick of this: first they big up all of this cqarbon-footprint/global warming rubbish 'til you're sick to the back teeth of it.

Next it's the banking crisis and their Peston-fuelled whipping up of hysteria: I have no doubt whatsoever that the BBC are responsible to quite a large extent for the consumer confidence problem in this country.

Next we have got "The Downturn" - they've even done a little logo for it...

rolleyes

IMO they've departed so far from professional reporting as to make them no much better than some low quality papers. Their reporting creates a self-fulfilling prophesy.

I know that I don't *have* to read it, but the thing is that most of the population look to the BBC as a source of "truth" and it's their major source of news. Whoever is in charge of their content, be it net, radio or tv needs a talking to.

I agree. I always thought the BBC supplied the best news in the world but since the 'credit crunch' started I've realised just how wrong I was.

You mean there's another kind of paper?

Seems to me that the BBC is the best of a (very) bad bunch as far as the UK press is concerned.

It started going downhill way before that...

I first noticed it in the run up to the invasion of Iraq.

I saw the light also. Stick with Sky News, far more informative and in my opinion unbiased.

The BBC TV news is appalling these days. It's so dumbed down. They don't explain anything in depth any more, just waste time with lots of stupid imagery. Wake up BBC - it's intelligent people watching the news.

I had the idea the other day to set up a new News channel/paper that actually told the truth. Presented things as fact or where definite fact couldn't be guranteed, views from both sides on the subject in a reasoned debate.

Would this sell?

No. People don't want news, they want "olds". They want you to tell them what they already think they know, whether it's the truth or not.

ETA: I also think it's almost impossible to do because there is no clean line between fact and theory/opinion. Or rather there is, but so little is actually "fact" that it would make such a publication pretty useless.

You seem suprised.

Vast majority of the people in this country are as thick as pig st.

They're just fulfilling a market need.

Dreadful isnt it?

I was watching this this morning and thought the same thing. Really beginning to piss me off now!

Also, am I right in thinking that the BBC aren't allowed to advertise? If so how come Radio 1 keeps advertising a new album everywhere?

I had another thought too. Why should we have to pay for anything the BBC produces? We are effectively share holders as we have to pay the stupid BBC tax (licence fee), why should we have to buy their cds, dvds etc!??

Probably because you're trying it in a place where half the people might actually have said the same thing as serious fact. wink Had you actually said CNN, we probably would have got it.

Probably.

Maybe.

You need to use a "I;m being sarcastic" smiley

such as biggrin or jester

You mean CNN still exists? Best go and be informed then... wink Does that smiley help?
Probably.

Maybe.

I have said it so many times, I would not care what the BBC reports, what it's biased opinions were, if Justin Webb proclaimed to wanting to bum Obama, etc......IF, I did not have to fund it via the telly-tax.

They operate so far outside their charter it's untrue!
