Is my mind playing tricks on me or is there a pack available that you can get wich goes through the relevant stages of a self build home?

If not, are there any good websites on working out the basic costs etc?

Just out of interest, why do you want to self-build if you need an instruction pack? There's so much slack in the building industry that you could get a better finished house, faster and probably a chunk cheaper by getting it built by professionals...

I mean self build as in buying a plot, getting it designed and then paying for it to be done.

I'm curious as to what's involved in the process, not about how to pop up plaster board.

Good luck Dave! I'm looking for a plot to do that as we speak. More plots seem to be coming on to the market as developers offload!!

Don't know what part of the country you are in, but a visit to this lot might be worth while.

http://www.mykindofhome.co.uk/

There are also (at least) 3 magazines that deal with Self Build.

Homebuilding and Renovation
Build it
and Selfbuild (I think)

Tuna on here is mid self build, and Get Carters blog about the build he did up in the highlands is worth a read as well.

It was Getcarters blog which got me interested in it a while back. Now with the prices as they are it's looking more likely we can afford to do it how we want.

I'll pop out and have a look at those magazines.

If you've got a decent smiths (oxymoron I know) nearby, they stock all of them.
