Fed up with carrying a small ruck sack to the gym and out and about in general. Looking to change for something more stylish and comfortable. Was looking at The North Face bags today. Need something with two large compartments so that bag of sweaty gear goes in one section. Velcro closure and some watr-proofing would be nice options, as well as a few nooks and crannies for storing bits 'n bobs.

Something like this (not yellow or black though)? What else is worth looking at?

Mine is by 'Troop'. Has velcro closure. and many pockets for mobile phone, cards, pens etc as well as the obvious bigger pockets.

Have a look at Crumpler bags - started out as courier bags, and still have some no nonsense bags that do the job.
They don't have compartments which you mention (solved with plastic bags), but they take heavy abuse including the weather.

I've bought Timbuk2 stuff for many years, I'm not sure about compartment options though since I've just gone for the standard stuff, there is a center divider option that might do, you can design your own bag on their site, although you can get the standard models pretty cheap on ebay:

I don't understand. From your post, it sounds like you don't have someone who ensures that your gym kit is pressed and washed and waiting for you when you arrive at the gym???

It almost sounds like you're suggesting that you take your kit to the gym yourself!

Thing is, most of those bags in the sites above are less messenger bag and more "man bag".

I have an old Fantazia VIP Crew messenger bag from the early '90s.

Looks good value JimJimJimminyJim. Do you will think it will take a pair of shoes, change of clothes? Is it waterproof. I would be using it on the tube, so needs some zips and fastenings. Not sure it has these?

Mr. Bauer could fit an enemy's head, a selection of weapons and other accessories in his, so I'd have to presume a change of clothes would fit.

More realistically, not got one, so I couldn't say.

I have a plain lazy messenger bag I use for the gym. It doesn't really meet your brief as its only a single compartment but I wanted to show some support for what will inevitably descend into ruthless banter about 'man bags'.
Good call on the freitag's. I hadn't heard of those before but I like them allot, I may have to get one.

How about one of Oakley's new "tactics" range of bags?

The price isn't exactly credit crunching winkhehe but they're nice looking bags!
