When I turn the volume dial on my computers speakers down to the lower end of the scale (but with the volume set high via windows), I'm hearing radio transmissions / interference, someone banging on about this Jesus bloke last I heard. Imagine my surprise when sat with a ciggie in a quiet room reading what you 'orrible lot on here have to say, I start hearing a feint trace of what seems to be very enthusiastic bloke wax-biblical through my speakers, thought it was divine intervention for a second.

Now, my PC is watercooled and has one near-silent fan, so everything is quiet to the extent I'd probably not hear it otherwise, and when I turn the volume up on the speakers it ceases to do it.

So, what's the reason for the speakers (I assume it's the speakers doing so) picking up these broadcasts / intereference and what can I do to stop it.

If it's of any relevence they're top end logitech speakers, 5.1 jobbies ( 5 satellite speakers on the desk and 1 big sub under it), probably not the best make out there but they do the job and I'm not changing them for something so trivial.

So as you can guess it's not a problem I'm desperate to solve really (and probably doesn't warrant a thread, never mind such a long winded opening post), as it's bearly audiable anyway and it seems to go away when you turn the volume up on the speakers and down in windows respectively to achieve the same output volume (if that makes sense), just curious really I suppose as it's the first time I've heard anything of the sort.

Cheers

My neighbour is a radio amateur and his transmissions used to break through on my PC speakers, but only briefly a few years ago.

I think his kit was on the blink.

This does not mean you're out of trouble on the ghoulie front...

Probably an AM broadcast. Find out what station it is first. A shielded and correctly grounded cable will not do this.

Think that you might have a virus. I had something similar a while back and kept getting clapping and some guy talking to a crowd.

can't remember the name but you'll see a couple of .exe's in task manager which just keep growing and grabbing memory.

I'll try and find a link

Yeah, these late night smokes are a right mindbender! Just be cool, don't tell anyone "official" about the voices (they'll think you need a spell somewhere where the walls are a bit softer) just put on some mellow tunes to try to drown them out, whatever you do don't use angry hip hop or rock or the voices will turn into raging taunts about killing your friends with an broken ashtray and horribly violating a hooker with your man beast!

I'd say keep away from the skunk, but me I'm like a moth to a flame with it where as I don't care for it at all. sillywobble

It's probably due to a bad mains earth connection (or none at all). The volume control will have the lower end connected to the zero volt side of the computer power supply which is rarely grounded these days and will act as an aerial. Unfortunately there isn't a 100% cure for all cases so best thing is to try and live with it.
BTW, does muting the sound instead of just turning down the volume cut the sound?

lol believe it or not I don't do drugs hehe

Muting it gets rid of the noise. It's not a virus or anything sinister, no nasties on any of my PC's, and is definately radio noise I reckon.

Mine do it too. Logitech speakers by any chance? My mate has the same speakers as me and gets the same thing.

I too get a guy preaching about Jesus aswell. Sounds American to me.

Havent got a clue how to stop it though. Very weird when your asleep and wake up with some Random guy talking!

I used to have some cheapy speakers that used to do this - very strange to be sat in a room and then suddenly someone starts speaking german from nowhere.

I have two guitar amplifiers that do this every now and then, And it's always the same southern American guy ranting about how great Jesus is. The part that bothers me is that wherever I bring the amps, they can pick up that signal ...

how bizarre that it's the same preacher by the sound of it. Obviously the logitechs are susceptible to picking up the frequency. Wierd.
