What could I possibly do that's different to all the current activities out there considered as big acheivements? Must be UK based.

At the moment there's this list I'm looking at...

Swim the channel
London Marathon
3 Peaks Challenge
Sail Single Handed Around Britain
Cycle Lands End to JOG.

Something a bit different, any ideas?

I was thinking perhaps Kitesurfing the North Sea to Holland/Belgium?

Okay, swimming the UK would probably take ITRO 1 year to complete based on my swimming capability, that's swimming for 8 hours a day every day lol!

Reckon running the marathon is the best idea, it's most achieveable, as it will allow you to work at the same time during training, whereas you'd need a few weeks/months to cycle LE-JOG, although it's something i fancy doing at some point.

Can anyone swim the channel or does it have to be a big organised affair?

Do em all, just choose one to do first biggrin

If the 3 peaks is a bit easy, try doing the 14 Welsh 3000+ footer mountains in one day. After that how about training up for a Bob Graham round? Or going for the record for bagging all the Munros (Scottish 3000+ foot mountains).

In a couple of years that won't be such a challenge frown

If you want to make it a swimming based one, give me a shout. I'm involved in long distance outdoor swimming.

My ex used to swim for Scotland so I've got years of life saving/boat crewing experience and could help you organised/train/crew for this kind of thing. I've crewed on most outdoor swims in the UK.

Heck I'll even volunteer to life save for you. If it's for charity obviously!

No idea? Shipping lanes may cause a problem, but if you've got a boat support crew, i'd imagine it's 'doable'

What i'm trying to achieve (pie in the sky at the moment) is an achievement that's not in the public domain.

From above - Has anyone actually kitesurfed across the North Sea yet? Not that I can find - So i'd be the first - a pioneer if you like, the one everyone remembers (maybe hehe) just looking for alternative ideas.

It has to be an organised affair. You'd probably kill yourself otherwise.

No-one should be in open waters without a boat crew, who will also notify the coastguard and shipping authorities. They in turn will tell you about any potential shipping traffic, who will also be alterted to your presence in the water.

Open water swims (excluding lakes/lochs) are generally dictated by the weather conditions and tide. You want to try and get as much tidal assistance as possible in order to complete your swim.

I think you might be on a hiding to nothing there. Who remembers the first person to do LEJOG? Or to swim the channel? Not many folk, I'd guess. I'd look to do something that you'll really enjoy, regardless of whether it has been done before or not.

And the website undercalls the number of obstacles as it's 2 years out of date...
