Help please anyone. For the last couple of nights, I've lost all the BBC channels on Freeview. Some might say that might be a good thing, but Mrs Plug will give a convincing arguement in favour of KnobEnders.

The signal is, or was, ok in the mornings, then got lost in the evenings. I have now re-scanned the programmes on auto search, and now have lost all the BBC channels. The signal strength indicator says 42, which helps me no end rolleyes. 42 out of something might help more. The receiver is built into the TV, and has caused me no problems before. I also have no issues with Freeview reception on other TV's in the house off the same aerial.

Can anyone here help?

Have you walked outside and looked up at your aerial? If you've had wind speed anything like we've had the last few nights, you may find it's no longer pointing in the same direction it was a few days ago...

KnobEnders in on every evening on proper TV (BBC1). I'm seeing how few beats it can get into the opening theme before I leap across the room uttering profanities and hit the off button.

that certainly explains our poor terrestrial reception, I will attempt to recover the aerial and cable from next door's garden later today....

I have had this exact problem for the last few months. I'm working off an internal aerial but have never had any signal problems until recently. BBC channels cutting in and out and sometimes disappearing altogether.

I put up with it as I didn't watch much BBC on this tv anyway. However, I think it has corrected itself in the last week or two.

No probs there. As I said, no issues with other TV's. I'm suspecting the new TV may be on the blink.

As other Freeview TVs are working, the problem could be in the specific aerial cable onwards.

First step would be to try a different TV in that socket. If it has problems, it could be cable damage (e.g. squirrels), a socket problem, or perhaps a jump lead problem (try a different jump lead). If you have a splitter box/amplifier in the loft, that could be faulty, or the cable could be loose.
Can you try the 'faulty' TV on a different socket?
Can you try the 'faulty' TV on an set-top aerial?

That should isolate exactly where in the system the problem lies.

Thanks for that. Looks like a busy evening in the attic. No change there then...

Lot of work going on at our transmitter causing problems among them showing up good and bad receivers. Any works on your transmitter?

Don't know whether its a similar thing but the channel guide on my freeview box gets "stuck" on certain programmes/times - to use the example above it says that BBC1 is

19.00 ABC show
19.30 Eastenders

and will show this irrespective of the time or date.

It does this on quite a few of the channels but there do not appear to be any problems with the reception or picture quality.

Switching it on and off does no good, re-programming channels fixes it but is a royal pain in the @rse.

Any ideas?

Will an amplifier help for a free view signal. I am in rented flat so can't adjust aerial, but could slap a doohickey at the point it comes out the wall. If so what should I be looking at?

Not sure how accurate it is but there does appear to be a discrepancy. Other to mull over.

Given the anecdotal evidence that lots of people seem to be losing just the BBC channels, have they recently switched form 16 to 64 bit QAM?

I haven't lost the signal as such, but the BBC channels have been very up and down for me over the last few days - picture breakup, sound dropping out and freezing every now and then, that sort of thing.

Fixed it!. After a lot of faffing around, turns out that the VCR (I know, go easy on me) has gone belly up. Bypassed it and everything back to normal.

Thanks for all input. I shall now try to extol the merits of a new Skybox to Mrs Plug getmecoat
