And they'd have got away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling kids!

WASHINGTON – Law enforcement agents have broken up a plot by two neo-Nazi skinheads to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and shoot or decapitate 88 black people, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives said Monday.

In court records unsealed Monday in U.S. District Court in Jackson, Tenn., federal agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target a predominantly African-American high school in a murder spree that was to begin in Tennessee. Agents said the skinheads did not identify the school by name.

Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of ATF's Nashville field office, said the two men planned to kill 88 people, including 14 African-Americans by beheading. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.

The men also sought to go on a national killing spree after the Tennessee murders, with Obama as its final target, Cavanaugh told The Associated Press.

"They said that would be their last, final act — that they would attempt to kill Sen. Obama," Cavanaugh said. "They didn't believe they would be able to do it, but that they would get killed trying."

An Obama spokeswoman traveling with the senator in Pennsylvania had no immediate comment.

The men, Daniel Cowart, 20, of Bells, Tenn., and Paul Schlesselman 18, of Helena-West Helena, Ark., are being held without bond. Agents seized a rifle, a sawed-off shotgun and three pistols from the men when they were arrested. Authorities alleged the two men were preparing to break into a gun shop to steal more.

There will be plenty of opportunities for people to get him when he gets in power. Not a job I would want as a black guy in the USA - potentially very bad for your health. If I was a betting man, I'd have a few bob on him getting slotted in his first term.

Oh I doubt that. The security around presidents is just about impenetrable, not to mention the intelligence on any potential threats.

The lone KKK attacker will not be seen by intelligence. Unless the put BO in an all over bullet proof suit, a lone attacker is unstoppable - as is a lone suicide bomber over here. No communication with others = no intelligence to follow. They just get the job done, planning is in their head. Nothing to see till it happens. It'll happen if someone wants it bad enough.

Right, so how do they do it? The only way is with a rifle, except the secret service will be on every roof and looking at every window. Bulletproof shields everywhere.

President Bush has a lot more enemies than a black president, and nobody has gotten to him.

Why do you say this? Why would there be no other options, such as handgun, explosive, dart, gaseous cloud, remote controlled aircraft with deadly payload of some sort, etc.?

You're dealing with a couple of dumbfk rednecks from a trailer park in Tennessee, somehow I don't think they have the resources to pull off a remote-controlled artillery attack on what is one of the the most heavily guarded men in the country.

But that's the thing, it wouldn't take much in the way of resources. I am guessing the next semi successful or successful attack will be the work of a loner with only tradesman-level skills. I don't think pros can penetrate the tight security, so it would only be an unexpected attack (like 9/11 was) that would be able to penetrate any of the rings of security around the president.

I do fervently hope I am wrong, though.

Trained? You serious? They practiced on MS Flight Simulator and did a few flight classes (at least one flunked out of that, even). They exploited weaknesses in the system, and had some luck. There was no "training" that they relied on.

And funding? Lol. The whole operation was carried out for less than half a million dollars, or less than $20,000 per operative. Some funding.

You think a billybob couldn't access the same training and funding working at McDonald's and living at home? They would certainly have an easier time blending in than the terrorists did.

The Unabomber wreaked his mayhem while living on less than half a shoestring too.

First, the Unabomber would have never gotten anywhere near the President or a Presidential candidate, even one running on the crackhead ticket.

Microsoft Flight simulator? HA! I have a Pilot's license... I can land a 747-400 right on the numbers in heavy wind shear at night going into Kai Tak in FSX and I wouldn't dream of trying that in real life because I'd wreck the plane. FS, especially FS2K will NOT teach you anything but the most basic fundamentals of flight. I've flown the exact planes I have flown in real life in FS and it's nothing like the real thing, the basics are there, but it's not going to teach you how to control a Boeing jet.

And yes, if they did pull it off for Half a Million that's a half a million more than those kids have.
