From the Register... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10/28/peaches_ro...

Peaches Geldof's career as a magazine columnist may the shortest-lived in the history of hackery after her first piece for the website of fashion mag Nylon copped one of the severest shoeings theoretically possible before the sheer intensity of reader anger causes the entire internet to permanently implode.

...for her efforts, Peaches immediately attracted hundreds of comments, few of them complimentary and most now pulled by Nylon. One survivor of the editorial hate cull notes: "i think they were right to delete all the nasty, bitter comments that were based on no more than ignorant and irrational prejudige. however, the person who posted the word 'c*nt' 11,000 times made a valid point, one that was based upon sound reasoning and enlighted argument. i see no reason why that should have been censored."

Marvelous - reminds me of that nepotism case with the son of a guardian columnist whose gap year blog got slaughtered.

She's a complete waste of space on this earth.

Who is she? apart from being Tramp Geldof's daughter what has she done? All i can see is the following:

1. Insult the institution of marriage
2. Get caught buying some booger sugar
3. Having an overdose (must try harder next time love)
4. Falling out of nightclubs like some stupid we
5. Having friends who are in bands does not make you 'cool' most of them look like they need a good bath.

I cannot stand the 'cult' of celebrity in this country, being famous for being a stupid whoore. Look, im sorry your mum topped herself, but get a grip and go and get a real job rather than be a bottom-feeding media we. mad

That was one of the best backfires of recent times, that one.

So a person has to have done certain things to be worthy of living? Do you not believe in the inherent right to life?

I was meaning why is she in the public eye. Why give her house room in the media?

It's the curse of 'celebrity' i have more of an issue with, but she is a case in point for being famous for no reason whatsoever - She might be a lovely girl, but because she loves having her face in the papers, it's that that marks her as a waste of space.

I really was hoping for a recipe for Roast Peaches with cinammon, nutmeg and home made vanilla ice cream.

Then I noticed it wasn't the Food and Drink forum.

So, so, so, disappointed.

And what on earth did she expect. Bryony Gordon at the Telegraph is at least competent and if she writes anything sub-standard gets a shoeing. Being an incompetent twit isn't a qualification for journalism of any sort.

Exactly. That's what the Chancellor's job is for.

I understand your point about her being 'famous for being famous'. However, I don't understand why so much anger is aimed at such people; it's not wrong to crave publicity and if people weren't interested in them, then they wouldn't get that publicity. Why get worked up about what other people's interests are.

One comment, apparently left by British columnist AA Gill, said: 'The banality is shocking. Get some life experience, keep your head down and until you do, save us from this insipid, vacuous social commentary that justifies the dislike of you.'

Much as I am unimpressed by modern celebrity culture, I'd never wish death or mutilation on anyone who aspires to it.

I just ignore it all. That seems to work fine most of the time.

Having just had a hard and boring day in the office, then, as i stuff myself on to the tube and try to read the Metro or London Paper etc in the little cranny i make for myself in between armpits and bags, to come across Peach/Petunia/Pixie Geldof/Jagger having written some gash, taken 5 minutes to do so AND likely been paid what i do in a month, all that makes one want to pierce these little vacuous air-head rich girls with long pins !!

OTOH i also think that each to their own, we make our way in the world as best we can, and the fact they earn more than I for 5 minutes of writing gash illustrates i am in the wrong job maybe !! hehe

So why do follow 'Celebrity Culture' if it annoys you.
