Has everyone in the banking sector gone completely flaming mad? It seems that way, almost like corporate suicide.
Just received a letter from my credit card company telling me that in line with being a responsible lender blah waffle bull blah they were dropping my credit limit.
Somewhat bemused by this I phoned up the number on the top of the letter and ended up speaking to some mung bean who assured me that they had taken into account all sorts of factors and applied some, hitherto, undiscovered form of mathematics to determine that I should be protected from myself!
FFS! I can do maths, I explained that whilst my balance might be quite high at this present moment in time this did not mean that I was about to phone up the first debt refinancing loan shark that advertised on UK Gold today. As pointed out at length, just because the banks can't do their sums properly, doesn't mean the rest of us can't. Dammit, I've put 15k through his poxy credit card alone in the past 7 months, over 60k through his crappy little wannabe bank and have more than enough funds on deposit to cover any and every liability I currently have.
I just don't get it. Where is the logic in p1ssing off your good customers?
Is it just me or does it seem that everyone seems to have lost their minds? I had to teach a chartered accountant how sums work the other day after he manufactured an 80k hole in my accounts which I knew damn well didn't exist. Had to go back to basics and once the penny dropped (I ensured the presentation was done in front of the entire board and our bookkeeper from hell) the bloke went white as a sheet and frantically started backtracking. Obviously intelligence is not a prerequiste for many professions these days!

If not, in the current climate, where are you managing to get >10% on investments that you would need to make having the cash on deposit make more sense than paying off your cc?

I'd change your accountant prior to worrying about your C/c limit.
Point taken but it was just a supporting example of the level of stupidity in business these days. The accountants aren't some little back street operation either.Anyway, since I can still afford beer I'm going down the pub to chill and since I'm the boss, I'll award myself the rest of the day off.
And Ex, if you read this, is Knock (sp?) anywhere near you? May be over in the Emerald Isle at some point in the near future, perhaps we could grab a few pints and catch up.
Just been a piece on Working Lunch about MBNA changing people's direct debits to take only the minimum payment amount, even if you'd agreed a higher amount to be taken each month. They claim it is to help out customers that pay less than the minimum amount but coincidentally it'll mean that those that pay off more than that will incur higher interest charges.

I had to ring my credit card company yesterday (in India) to find out why they had stopped people from making payments over the phone unless you speak to an adviser now (in India). I use to phone up once a month to make a payment hastle free but now you have to que up for ages to speak to somebody! Outrages..............

As I explained to the little scrot on the phone, I'd just done this month's expenses so was about to clear the balance anyway. They only upped the rate in April to bring it back down in October, just because his poxy bank is up sIf not, in the current climate, where are you managing to get >10% on investments that you would need to make having the cash on deposit make more sense than paying off your cc?

Barclays by any chance... bunch of c
ts !!! Had an MS airmiles card which i used, then became barclays but the deal on airmiles was worse so closed the account... the hassle i went through to do this was incredible.... '' but you get free ringding''Neil_H said:
So on the one hand we have people claiming banks are stupid for lending people money they can't afford, and on the other we have people complaining when their credit is reduced.
Rock and a hard place?
Not really, the problem is that they don't look at the bigger picture. A letter to TeamD advising him that due to recent problems in the industry they are proposing to reduce his limit unless he can show X,Y and/or Z to confirm that he is sufficent standing to quallify for the £Xk limit would have been far better.Rock and a hard place?
Personally i am getting pee'd off with my CC company at the moment because they seem to make up the next repayment date as they go along. I am sure that if I go back through everything I will find that they advised me of this and so on though.
It's still caused me to be late once this year by a day (never missed any payment date of any sort ever before) and last night I noticed today was my due date this month and my only hope is that as they are one and the same as my bank the net transfer will stopp them adding interest to my tab. All because they changed the repayment date from that which it had been for over 10 years to some moving target i have to check every month.

paid cheque into bank on monday morning - ask how long does it take to clear - 3 days is the reply.
I leave it 4 days, go in today (after checking it had cleared via online banking) sorry sir it will clear tomorrow.
How may days does it take to clear a cheque? 3 days is the same reply - I ask that if I pay in a cheque monday and it does not clear until friday that this is 5 days in real terms..... reply is it's 3 days.
Is my maths wrong here? why dont thay just say it takes 5 days to clear rather than waste time?!

So hang on, it's the Banks' fault, all this credit crunch business, for irrespnsible lending, apparently.
So when they cut people's limits, they are still in the wrong?!
they'll have logs of spending patterns, clearly some people never reach their limits whilst others are constantly bouncing off itSo when they cut people's limits, they are still in the wrong?!
they need to have a better understanding of where to draw the line

MAybe the problem is that they lent without asking enough questions and now they're cutting back in the same way....?So when they cut people's limits, they are still in the wrong?!
We paid cash into our account recently & left it 5 hours to transfer it into our savings account. Next day we checked our balance & it said we had been charged £30 for unautharised overdraft.
WTF, how can cash being paid straight in not be there & when you transfer it which they let you do, they then charge you for going overdrawn! Hence we rang them (in india) & refused to pay it. I also went into our local branch to express my concerns with speaking to people who clearly didnt have a clue about the English language let alone anything to do with banks. We were refunded the full amount.
