Sorry if this been asked before.

Is an ebay sale with 'Pay with PayPal and you're fully protected' actually nice and safe? Been offered an item with 'second chance' at a good price - want to make sure I AM safe before transferring money .

I've never had problems with paypal and i've found I have been protected. Been a long time member with them too. Go for it if you want it!

For how much?
Im always wary of 2nd chance offers? Why did first one pull out questions I'd have.

You never know the reserve might not have been met and the OP was the highest bidder, happened to me with a car once, got it buck cheap! Or they might have more than one of them, I think your just worrying for the sake of worrying - IMHO

I also had a bad experience with a second chance offer, so much so that I am reasonably sure the original winning bid was a shill bid, continually increasing the bid to discover my highest bid. Then offering it to me when of course his friend understandably didn't want to buy it.

The seller tells me he has been mucked around twice with this item - by the winning bidder, and then the 2nd highest, and I'm next. He 'seems' bona fide, however so did a chap that I nearly bought a highly expensive video camera from the other month.

As long as you guys reckon paypal protection works OK, I'll most likely take a breath & go for it. To answer one question below about £400.

Not great but not bad. I've made claims through them on a number of occasions and I've always got my money back. I think superkartracer comments say it all!

haha...oh dear, the old second chance offer eigh?

Seller puts something on eBay.
Seller using his 'other' account(s) 'bids up' his own item.
Seller offers second chance offer to the highest real bidder.

Tis a very old trick. But if you're happy with the price, go for it.
