Just noticed that the new(ish) 1p and 2p coins are magnetic. Price of copper must be affecting the Royal mint eh

Happened a long time ago when the value of the metal exceeded the face value of the coins. I have several kilos of old 2p's. I used to use them as rivet washers on my wooden boat. Drilling a hole through HM's head is very naugghty though. hehe

They are only plated in copper alloy. Not pure copper

They have never been made of pure copper as far as I know. Up until 1991 they were made of bronze, now they're copper plated steel.
