What is it with Fire works scratchchin I mean....Its Pissing it down here yet its Bang Bang Boom Boom every five minutes FFS !!

For saying we are going through a recession why do people like literally burning money that is supposedly so tight at the moment ?

I for one would be in favor of public displays only..... What do the Piston head massive think ?

Blimey only another three weeks of this ste !

Loved fireworks as a kid. Then grew up and and never paid cash for one since.

It's all quiet here but then again it's pissing down outside...smile

Suppose its annoying but I think I'd rather put up with it and have freedom than more stupid laws banning all sorts of things. So long as there not going off too late I can think of far more annoying things, you want to try living next to a 24 hour pub like I do in uni. I'd take fireworks over drunks any day!

I think we should stop being referred to as a 'massive'.

Edited to add: Not heard one yet but then it is pouring down in London so I guess we're lucky! smile

It's pouring with rain here in Wiltshire and it too is like a war zone with fireworks going off constantly.

I sort of have polarised opinions of this. On one hand they're a bloody nuisance and kept awake my 9-month-old baby boy some 3 years ago, however he's now old enough to love them and enjoy the spectacle.

As as the fireworks start up again this year, I have a 4-month-old girl who is totally unconcerned with the noises of war outside her window. I hear the mortars going off and feel indignant that someone is trying to wake her, but then I look at her sleeping soundly and chide myself on my unecessary selfishness.

Cost wise... well in an effort at doing what Dads do, son and I went to a warehouse nearby and bought a decent couple of packs for 26 quid. We've got a good mix of rockets and candles for that. 26 quid isn't a budget-crippling amount.

However if they were banned from sale to the general public I think I'd agree with it. We are already going to local firestation where a local display will be held. That we are able to send a few of our own up is fun but not strictly necessary.

And then there's the distress they cause to animals... that alone makes them worth banning I guess. And the damage they do to children regardless of your opinions on whose fault it was.

I have never seen a firework display in the UK that is anything other than a wet fizz - even the 'massive' displays in Lewes etc are mediocre at best. The Fallas in Valencia - now that's a different story. Spectacular.

The pub in the village has just put on an impressive display - clearly visible from my upstairs windows. It held my attention for nearly a minute. Now the loud music has started and I've had to turn up the telly. Each to their own.

What recession? People that keep acting like there is one are making one.

  • Work like you don't need the money.
  • Spend like its going out of fashion.
  • Love like you've never been hurt (well buy her some shoes or something).
  • Dance like no-one is watching elvis the pelvis
  • Screw like it's being filmed,
  • Drive like the Stig
  • And drink like a true Irishman (not in conjunction with the above).
If you live through that lot without a heart attack you won't be bothered about any recession wink

Here today gone tomorrow.

Round here (South Liverpool) there is strangely *much* less of them than last year - which was frickin' ridiculous.

However, the only one's I've seen going off have been in the middle of the day. I mean? What kind of fecking waste of a firework is that? Proper expensive fireworks just putting away and invisible in the sunlight and street haze. Morons.

When I was a kid, the only firework you let off in the day was a good old banger - especially the ones imported from France rather than the Brocks rubbish. Especially when contained in an old paint tin and you stood on the lid or some such... or buried in the ground... ahh such fun times! me mum wasn't much pleased but we had a great time.. lol

Larking around with fireworks, as well as any other observation of nature, as a lad got me seriously interested in science and I couldn't wait to get into the 4th/5th year and take up chemistry and physics as O level options.

Only when the time came, the looney left, after a school merger, decided to get rid of hard sciences, and replace physics, chemistry and biology, with a catch all "general science"... this was nothing more than a comprehension exercise and was also littered with left wing enviromentalist nonsense.. I perticularly remember one explaining how sausages are made of evil E-number rubbish, but veggie ones are ok. It seriously pissed me off.

Didn't stop me playing with chemicals with my older mates who still had a proper science education, and learning third party from them.

In these days I would now be locked up for terrorism for such things as burning magnesium ribbon, playing with pottasium manganese and glycerin, or making gunpowder or guncotton (Yeah we managed to find sulphuric acid (conc.) and make nitric out of it. lol!)

All in my own back yard outside of schooltime. Perfectly legal back then.
