Recently booked a mega-holiday to celebrate the wife and I's 10th wedding anniversary. Just phoned reservations to pre-book our seats (going Thai biz class) and horror of horrors, they can't seat us next to each other on the way out...this is not going to go down too well with Mrs. frown

That is very bad indeed. When are you flying?

Bonfire Night.

Oh well, maybe someone will take pity on us and swap seats. In all honesty, this is the first glitch with what had been a very speedily but well executed plan.

Perhaps the cabin crew could help you out once you get on the plane? Saves you having to ask other passengers yourself

They did this for my wife when she requested a seat next to me on a long haul.............

I could've killed 'em!

I guess so. Maybe I'll just lay it on thick at check-in (nicely of course, no point in gettting their backs up.)

Thing is that she's never travelled anything other than cattle class, this was supposed to be the start of the biggest, soppiest, demonstration of my appreciation of her ever. Just don't want things to go wrong.

If all else fails on the day, just ask a lone traveller if they would mind swapping. I went to China a couple of years ago and was sat right at the back, with a Chinese girl next to me. She must have seen a friend of hers in the departure lounge because he came to the back and started chatting to her for quite a while. Then he asked me if I minded swapping with him; he had a nice seat. As i was travelling on my own it didn't really matter to me, so I did. Turns out he was orignally sat in the extra-legroom-and-reclining-seat class, which was nice, for me!

When did you book?

I am flying business class on Thai air today, 21:35 tonight back to work, dont worry someone will change with you, just make sure you mention it to the staff at an early stage, when checking in, or at last resort when boarding.

This happened to us on the way to America - if you're in business you should be okay - you just need to look a bit sad on the plane, talk to the stewards and hopefully some kind-hearted businessman will swap with one of you.

Business Class stewards are so helpful and friendly its amazing.

Cheers. I guess if this little thing is the only problem that occurs then I should be grateful. Just wanted to make it perfect for her.

I've had this a few times - most recently went to Japan with the OH - we had booked seperately and I'd had to pay well over the odds to get on the same flight. Politely explained this when we checked in - girl said she would see what they could do. When we got to the gate they had boarding cards for us together - pays not to get stressy with the staff I think....

Also had it where they couldn't get us seats together right until we got on the plane (basically a business flight to a rather scummy part of the world so no idea what was so tough) anyway just made sure we had seats "next" to each other on different rows - then it was easy to swap with someone on their own as we were trading like for like.

If asking at the front desk, and the flight crews doesn't work, you can always ask the passengers. Business class is usually single travellers, so they're unlikely to care where they sit.

I found this flying to Florida last year on Virgin. You could pre-book your seats online, but there were non together a couple of weeks before. I phoned up and they said try the week after as they release some of the seats later for some daft reason. And it was fine in the end. smile

Have you both confirmed the relevant time off work?
