I've got a dirty, stinking, rotten cold as of last night.

Not having some cute little Doris to run around nursing me, I want to shift it as quickly as possible.

What are your most tried and trusted methods of shifting a cold.....?

If I have to go out today, it's going to be just one trip and probably to a supermarket to acquire the most effective remedy.

Jack Daniels usually does it for me, but it might not be a great idea if you've got other things to do.

I had that yesterday. Knocked me off my feet all day. Spent yesterday in bed. As a result I feel OK today.

I rarely take medicine and I don't eat many vegetables, that seems to work for me.

gargle diluted tcp. if you really want you can gargle it neat then swallow a little of it. bottle doesn't recommend it but i guarantee this will sort your throat out in a matter of hours. works for me anyway. have a hot toddy afterwards [whiskey, hot water, slice of lemon studded with a few whole cloves].

combine that with cocodomol/paracetamol to help relieve the aching.

not much i can recommend for the blocked nose but take away the sore throat and headache and its much more bearable.

Had a cold this past Thursday. Real bad one that had me feeling cold when I was actually burning up.

Went into work on the Friday. A few goes on Wii Mariokart did not do the trick to clear it up. Lasted up till lunchtime when I went home and crashed out on the sofa under a duvet and Horton Hears A Who on the Xbox360.

Hit a few Lemsips and a Paracetamol or two on Saturday. All better almost on the Sunday smile

Rest and plenty of fluids, flush the fker out, if your not pissing every 10 mins your not drinking enough.

And eat lots of fruit, vitamin pills, orange juice, kill it with vitamins, that's if you haven't drowned it first, I treat my colds like war...now let me see your war face, ahhhhhhhhhhh.

Although how you rest if your at the toilet every 10 mins, I don't know, you got a spare kettle??

You can't shift a cold, your immune system needs to find it and kill it.

So give it the best conditions to do so, -get rest, stay hydrated, eat healthily.

High temperature is something your body does to itself, to limit the multiplication of the virus by turning up its 'central heating' to a level the virus doesn't like.

Then deal with the horrible stuff, aches and pains, etc with the usual paracetamol etc.

Block noses require port and brandy (2 parts to 1), no more blocked nose.

With the finest remedies, it will be gone within seven days. Otherwise, it may take as long as a week.
