Words fail me. Bournemouth Council draws up a list of nineteen phrases that are no longer to be used by its staff as they might confuse people and Latin words being scrapped. I do not speak Latin but the words mentioned in the article, I thought, were common knowledge. People confusing 'e.g.' with 'egg'. FFS

A Campaign spokesman said the ban might stop people confusing the Latin abbreviation e.g. with the word "egg".

Oh FFS.

It seems that some people really are that stupid, but maybe it's the council workers themselves getting confused?

Who knows?

It's called 'dumbing down'. People aren't really that stupid but there are measures being put in place that will drive people to stupidity (E numbers, rubbish TV programmes, dumbing down in school, taking over everything in society etc etc etc).

It is a shame. I believe English is one of the most beautifully descriptive languages in world. I hope someone who has the power to change these silly ideas wakes up before we all end up speaking like thug4gimp or woteva his bloody name is

Most school kids are now fluent in Text speak, yet could easily fail English Language.

My niece is at school in Birmingham, her English Language teacher is German... hmmmm scratchchin

That is an absolute joke. If you confuse e.g. with egg you should be put down instantly!

Maybe we should take all the Greek out of our language as well...just refer to dinosaurs as "big lizards" or television as "picture box"....

Pathetic.

If people are confused by it, perhaps they should educate themselves. Why should standards be lowered to accommodate the idiot-class?

My German Teacher is Swiss (adult classes before anyone asks if I'm on half term!). A lot of German people do speak almost perfect English. Quite worrying when you see the state of most of the kids' language skills in Britain now but that is a totally new subject!

The thing is, the German English teacher speaks perfect English, much better than most of the parents of the pupils she is teaching...

Have you met your average Labour Councillor? Normally they can't even string a coherent sentence together.

Words of more than one syllable will confuse them.

Dear god, i cannot wait until Labour get emptied as a government, every time they are in power for any length of time the country begins to circle the drain.

Lets not forget what made this country great, we are after all the only country in the world with an adjective in it's title 'Great Britain'

Im not sure if 'Call me Dave' is the answer, but if Labour get in at the next election, to coin a Duncan Bannatyneism.... Ahhhhmmmmmm Ooot.

N.B. The SNP better get emptied in Scotland as well, as i'm sick and tired of having a muppet party being in charge in Scotland. Alex Salmond (aka rent-a-crowd) is a disgrace. mad

Erm, that'll be because we're the only country in the world which is based on the largest of a named group of islands then?
