The Presidential Election Thread
Discussion
Right now Obama has 47% of the Popular Vote and McCain has about 51%. However polls are only just starting to close on the east coast.
It's important to remember that some states are going to go heavily for Obama (Massachusetts, New York) and some heavily for McCain (Texas, South Carolina, etc..)
The states to watch are the so-called "Swing States" of Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, etc.
It's been said that if Obama wins Virginia that McCain will have effectively lost the race. Virginia's polls closed 11 minutes ago

Personally I would prefer they all soak their balls in toffee and glaze them with a blowtorch while shouting at a hungry pack of wolves...
FACT: Did you know that this campaign is the most expensive in American history?
Seems like a really responsible thing to do when the whole world is now upto their ears in financial s
t caused by the Americans inability to control wild lending

Excellent comment on the BBC coverage just now.
'Some states we thought might go one way or the other and sure enough they have gone one way or the other'
Mate, there are only two candidates (essentially) so it was always going to go 'one way or the other' you moron.
Which misses the true inanity. Imagine if there were thirty candidates, and the comment had been 'And sure enough, they went for one of the thirty''Some states we thought might go one way or the other and sure enough they have gone one way or the other'

Filling airtime, nothing more.
