He even turned up in the BBC documentary series "Reaching for the Skies". Apparently, in the 1920s snd 30s his dad was an executive with one of the fledgling US airlines (it might have been American Airways). Gore Vidal was the first child to fly coast to coast in the US - in a Ford Trimotor.
