If an ad for a bar job says 'permanent' does it mean permanent? As in, you'll be in a contract... have to give lots of notice if you quit etc?

Just wanted something for a few weeks really.

I would imagine a lot of similar jobs are seasonal or casual work so permanent would mean in this case that you had set hours for an indefinite time period and if you leave you have to give notice the length of that usually depends on the way you are paid (weekly/monthly).

In a nutshell yes if worded like that....

Bar owners like to try and have a low turnover of staff (well key staff anyway). It's in the nature of the business that to succeed you need to have as many long term staff as possible. This is more so than other types of business especially with the recent downturn in the trade.

Don't take the job then leave them in the doo doo.

Probably won't entertain you if you plan on leaving in a short while but be straight about it as honesty goes a long way in the bar game.
