Just looking for a bit of advice/opinions really.

My OH is looking for a part time job and has landed an interview for a job as a secretary 20hrs a week. Its in the tourism industry and is based in Cornwall.

The salary it says is negotiable, thing is we have no idea what she should expect or what to negotiate around should she be offered the job. Is it likely minimum wage or something more ?

cheers

Depends how good she is on her knees wink

But seriously about £20k on a pro rata basis I think is about right for a basic secretary.

£12-15,000 full-time - then pro-rata down.

I think around £7 an hour would be a reasonable rate to expect.

My P.A was paid 20k a year. She did everything that a good P.A should be expected to do.

For a good secretary, £15k - £20k, then pro rata down. Usually about £9 an hour-ish?

Exactly - from what I've heard, Cornish salaries are pretty low. I'd be thinking low-teens (ooo-err) and pro-rata that.

Where abouts in Cornwall? The most she'd get would be if she was working in Truro, anywhere else and its going to be scraping the barrel, even in Truro you can expect min wage.

All of the West Country is shockingly low, I have recently been surprised by a couple of friends who relocated down there, having to take such substantial drops... I would say there is a difference between Sectretarial and PA work, depending on the level. I would have said around £14/£15k pro rata.
