On Sunday my wife took our two dogs out for a walk on the moors. As she was parking up she noticed another dog in the area where people park up. After walking our dogs for about 45mins she came back to the car to find the dog still there. As she was putting our dogs into the back of the car, she was approached by an elderly gent who mentioned that the dog had now been there for well over an hour and that it was bleeding. On closer inspection, the dog's head was covered in blood, it's eye was swollen, and the poor thing was shaking with fear - it looked like it had been attacked.

My wife checked the collar of the dog and found that it was chipped and had a contact no. on it. She called the owners - no answer - so she decided to take the dog to the vet (after calling back to leave our contact no. and the vets) to get some medical attention for it and to get the chip read to find out the location of the owners.

About 4 hours later the phone went and my wife answered. I was upstairs at the time so didn't hear the conversation. I went downstairs to find out who had called, and find my wife is in floods of tears, as the elderly owner has just called and given her both barrels for taking their dog to the vet, which meant he spent ages looking for the dog and it had "spoilt his day".

I immediately called the owner back and suggested that he was out of order, owed my wife an apology, and also asked WTF was she supposed to do when confronted by a terrified, blood soaked dog, that had been there for well over an hour? Our conversation got a little heated at this point and he hung up. The only saving grace is that he called back later that evening and offered a grudging apology to wife, which, fair play to him, takes some balls.

I'm really annoyed still though, as things like this just make you want to say fk it when it comes to trying to help others.

Well done for ringing him back and having a go at him.

Hope your wife is feeling a bit calmer now.

In other words, the guy's wife bked him within an inch of his life after you finished with him hehe

At least you got an apology though. Most people wouldn't have bothered.

He was obviously a tt at the time and then regretted his initial response - we've all gone overboard and then regretted!

Yeah, I was quite surprised when he rang back. Not sure I would have had the balls to do so TBH. Shame it warranted it though.

Did he ever say why the dog was left for so long injured like that?

forget him - you did the right thing for the dog and thats all that matters - you should feel good about that alone - unfortunately dogs don't choose their owners.

No. According to him, he'd been there all along [lie] and the dog had only been missing about 10 minutes [also a lie]. The vet reckoned it was probably attacked by another dog going by the injuries - cut eye, ear, and gum.

should've rang the vet back and got him to include a generous 'donation' to the rspca in his bill
