We've just had ours cancelled due to tough financial conditions in the markets - basically no-one's trading at the moment...I'm not overly bothered personally but a lot of the staff here are up in arms about it. Guess they'd rather have a party than a job (Numpties)

Just find it odd than people can be short-sighted about this. What makes me despair is most of the people doing the moaning complain year in, year out about the party being ste banghead They need shoot

We're just going to a few pubs in Manchester to get wasted. Might have a subway half way through but this is our night out this year.

Is your company party usually paid for by the company? If so, these people shouldn't really be complaining at all.
I'm lucky in that we are having a party, it's well organised etc, and all paid for by the company.
If they did decide to cancel it, it wouldn't be a shock and in the current fun times everyone's going through, I couldn't really blame them.

We're still having one - although the past couple of years we've had two (one paid for by the company, the other paid for by ourselves). We've decided not to do our own one this year though smile

I'm self employed and work from home. I may go to the local pub on my own, and weep into a beer and sandwich cry

Yeah - to be honest this is the first year since I've been here (8 years) that we've not had one. They are usually very good and the bill for about 50-60 people would make you wince (Around $30-40K)...Literally no expense spared, but to be honest I can totally understand why the decision has been made, just can't understand people's reaction to it - are they living in a bubble ?

Yeah still having one, its a small company that i work for with about 8 members of staff so at the xmas party there will only be 16 people (partners have been invited) and the company pay which is good of them. So we're having a 4 course meal followed by drinks and a disco at the event.

Then once that is done i think i will head to town for a few more drinks biggrin

Sometimes people just don't understand the money side of things, as you say it's a lot of money for one evening, and they just see it as they are missing out on something.
Maybe they should have the party, then not have a job afterwards because the company can't afford to pay them?
Who knows? People eh?

Christmas was officially cancelled at our place some time ago, but most departments are organising their own self-funded do. After all, what's Christmas without getting sozzled with your colleagues and talking sh*te to the fit marketing assistant that you normally don't have the courage to speak to? drunk

Not too bothered though, as long as we still get a bonus in January...

That's right, rub it in. Here, have some salt and a knife, so you can cut me and then rub salt in it.

Not going to any of them.

Would rather spend time with people I want to.
