I watched this film last night with my 17yr old son and it made me feel really old.

Anyone over the age of 25 would need subtitles. Do young people really speak like that? The characters were in their early twenties but still speaking like teenagers - "y'get me blood".

I really could not understand half of the script.

Overall quite a good film though although fairly worrying for the mum of a 17 yr old as I am. I found myself saying stupid mum things like "do you hang around with girls like that?" and "do your friends speak like that/carry knives/spit on the street ".

Anyone else seen it? Did you like it?

Is it just me or do you find it ridiculous when you see some anaemic[sic] skinny english kid speaking like he's from Harlem or wherever its supposed to originate from ????

I find it stupid that people from Harlem even talk like it.

I have watched kidulthood, but not yet had this one through the post.. Looks good though..

Watched it a few weeks back. Thought it was better than kidulthood but the accent/lingo got a bit annoying after 5 minutes but doesnt stop it from being a very good film.

Got both the movies & seen them both countless times.
It's just the London street talk, all the words they used are mainly of English street origin.
Most of it is from the up & coming hiphop scene.
Listen to a Dizzee Rascal Album / Sway / Roll Deep / Lethal Bizzle or an MC freestyle & that's where it comes from.
Quality movie though!

If u watch kidulthood, then adulthood straight after u realise how much better the acting actually is in the second one!
Personal opinion anyway!

It's no less understandable than the dialect they speak in Scotland or Yorkshire or anywhere else, it's just not what you speak so you don't understand it.

Language evolves, and different groups of people develop slang and patois that can be influenced from all around and often is designed to be impenetrable to the outsider.

Y'get me?

Me too. Lovefilm? It's been the only film I've got a high priority for weeks and they still haven't sent me it!

Saw kidulthood and thought it was rubbish, they use the same stupid language in that film as well.

I agree its stupid, but the film would be unrealistic if they didn't speak like that.

After all I doubt they are acting on the dialogue too much.
